From the DMN ....
Ken Campbell of The Hockey News just posted an article saying that Allen Americans owner Doug Miller is trying to buy the Stars.
I believe the article is accurate. Read it here.
I just landed in Phoenix and I'm trying to get a hold of people, so hopefully I can get some updates soon.
Miller has been interested in the Stars for a while, but he has been trying to creatively structure a deal that would work for Monarch Investments, the lead in a group of lenders who are running the team since Hicks Sports Group defaulted on its loans.
The problem with this offer is it probably is only the start of serious negotiations which could involve other groups.

This would be an ideal scenario, as Miller is passionate about hockey, would invest in the team properly and would keep it here in Dallas.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that this deal actually get finalized!

Why what? Cuban? Because I think Miller would make a much better owner than Cuban would.

I disagree - I think Cuban is the best pro franchise owner in Dallas.

That's not a tall order ... at least it wasn't until Nolan Ryan and company bought the Rangers. Who did we have before that? Oh yeah ... Hicks. Then there's Jerry.
As Jay said, Miller's got a passion for hockey. Cuban's got a passion for .... Cuban. And the Mavs. What does he know about hockey?

Are you rating them as Owners or as GM's ??
Jerry Jones is a very good owner - he just sucks as a GM. He promotes his team well, and built a $1B first rate stadium for his team and the fans. He is willing to sign players to make his team better which a lot of owners don't do. In my book a good owner.
Yeah, Hicks wasn't the best owner of the Rangers but he did hire Daniels and Ryan. Those two built a World Series team before Greenberg ever got here. He also owned the Stars when they won a Stanley Cup.
Cuban acts crazy but he is passionate about his team and heavily promotes the Mavericks. They are one of the premier teams in the NBA because he spends the money to get the players. Also many NBA players admire him as an owner. And the Mavericks are in the playoffs every year. Not bad. He might not know anything about hockey but to dismiss him as a bad owner of hockey because he knows nothing about the game seems quick. I guarantee you if he owned the Stars he would be passionate about them. That is the kind of person he is ...

Didn't say Cuban would be bad. I just think Doug Miller would be better. That's my opinion.

Cuban isn't going to sink his money into hockey - he's interested in profits. Those are in short supply for the NHL as interest over the last decade has fallen considerably in the sun belt.
