I've heard from others that Ford is having a drug problem, especially prescription drugs, with it's students. Do any of you have children attending Ford and aware of such issues?
I know there are drugs issues everywhere, but from what I've heard, Ford is having a tougher time compared to our two other middle schools.
Please let me know. Thank you in advance!

I haven't heard anything about that specifically, my daughters are 9th and 7th (Ford). However, they are not ones that are into that and neither are their friends, so it is probably flying under their radar.

I haven't heard anything either. Over the years I've heard a lot of people assuming that problems are worse at Ford than at the other two middle schools. I personally haven't seen any evidence that those assumptions are even remotely true.

There's also rumor that the Ford school zone will be changed in the next year or two to help give the student population a better "mix" if you know what I mean.
I heard about the possible change to the school zone from someone who's running for Mayor.

Personally, I wouldn't listen to rumors no matter who you hear them from. If you have a child entering the school and have concerns call the principal and ask questions. The middle school boundaries were just redone for this school year so I personally would consider it unlikely that they will change in the next few years. There is no precedent that I know of for redrawing boundaries purely to re-mix a school, they have always been done to accommodate growth. If you are interested, the TEA website probably has statistics for the socioeconomic "mix" at all of the schools.

Completely false.
To 'change the mix' of students at Ford implies an attendance zone change. The school district is in control of attendance zones, not the city.
Allen ISD does not have plans to change attendance zones at this time.

Out of curiosity I looked up the TEA statistics for economically disadvantaged population for each of the middle schools. I found the differences much less glaring than many may assume:
Ereckson: 12%, Ford 15.6%, Curtis 12.7%

I'm not implying that due to Ford's slightly higher socio-economic mix Ford it by default has a higher drug rate problem. I was only reporting rumors that I heard and requested some verification to those rumors.
Even though the mix is close to the same across all three middle schools, that doesn't mean there's not a drug problem at Ford.
It also doesn't mean that there's a drug problem at Ford just because I heard rumors. I'm sure they are only rumors and nothing more.

I went to for for 4 years, and have a daughter that went there for 2 and another daughter there now... Not much has changed..same stuff..drinking and getting high is just about all I have read/heard of... I do plan on now asking my daughter, seeing how she is taking Vyvanse... post back again this afternoon when she gets home.
Ford other than drug issues, I noticed after coming back from Erickson that it has way less fighting, still fights, but no where near the amount Erickson had. But again that was just my view point along with others than I had talked to about it also noticed the same.

I don't think it's just Ford. Yes, both of my kids told me stuff that happened there as they went through and it was minor compared to the stuff that comes out of Lowery/AHS which just floors me.
Sort of...
I have a question. What is a "bar"? One of my daughters old elementary school friends got busted for "selling bars" at the High School. Eveidently its dangerous enough that you get charged with involuntary man slaughter if you're caught selling it? I asked her what it was and she really didn't know.

All I can say is that if you have elementary kids, it's never too soon to discuss problems with taking drugs and succumbing to peer pressure.
Unfortunately, drugs are everywhere.

The only relationship in socioeconomic status and drug use is the quality of the drugs being consumed.
One of the challenges of having elementary going to 6th grade is there is a world of difference between a 6th grader and 2nd grader.

True, but I prefer that to the difference between a 6th and 8th grader or a 9th and 12th grader.

The problem isn't Ford. It's an Allen problem period. There are a ton of things that AISD nor AIPD put out in public for whatever reason. I don't understand why. There is a MAJOR drug issue here in Allen. Yes, it's everywhere but don't discount just how bad it is here. My kids go to AISD along with lots of friends kids. They get high in the hallways of the main campus. The kids park in the areas around the high school that are not monitored by camera's and get high. Sadly, I was one of those parent's that thought my kid was not that kind of kid and that they knew better about drug usage but i was blind sided and rudely awakened by what is really going on here in Allen and the schools. Please don't think it's at one school and not the other.....it is probably the biggest problem you will never hear about here in Allen period. But for whatever reason, the district or the city or both seem to want to protect this image of Allen instead of directly confronting the issue head on....it's sad. Dr. Philism here but you can't fix what you don't acknowledge!

Completely agree - I hear lots of info. from my sophomore about friends from elementary school now selling drugs, kids sent to Dilliard or expelled or in juvie for drugs, etc. Even snooping around on FB, I see Allen kids who my sophomore is FB "friends" with (and don't have the sense to use privacy settings) talking about getting high this weekend, etc. The AISD student drug problem is much bigger than AISD acknowledges. I watch my own child like a hawk!!

whats worse to me is the cover up....i'll probably get chastised but, if they actually sent all the kids that were caught doing drugs, drinking etc, there wouldn't be much of an athletic department either. From the football team, volleyball and softball teams and everything in between, they are covered up for or i should say, it's handled "internally". whereas if its just a general population student, THEN they are going to juvie or Dillard. All first hand information BTW. The only way this issue will ever even come up is if we as parents bring it to the forefront and demand more from our school and city.
I love where i live, and i also love the school district, i feel they are both top notch schools and a great communitity, but this particular issue does hit home and i'm extremely passionate about wanting this to get better before it gets worse than what it already is. And believe me it is bad and worse than what people really know.

Wow, I had no idea.
With the election coming soon, this is an issue our Mayor needs to address. Economic development is great but our children should be a priority.
