The topic came up on another thread about the socioeconomic "mix" at the three middle schools. Out of curiosity I looked up the statistics for each of the schools as reported by the T.E.A. The latest data available was for the 2008/09 year. Here is what I found:
Curtis: Rating: Exemplary Economically Disadvantaged: 13%
Ford: Rating: Exemplary Economically Disadvantaged: 16%
Ereckson: Rating: Exemplary Economically Disadvantaged: 12%
I think many people may find those numbers surprising.

I believe the district has done a good job with the boundaries and the "mix" of kids who go to each school. This may be a little harder to do with the elementary schools - but on the whole they do a great job.

I think you are correct. I want my kids to experience diversity but I wouldn't want to go as far as McKinney and bus kids specifically to achieve an ideal mix. I get a little tired of hearing the kids and the occasional adult refer to Ford as the "ghetto school." There's no ghetto in Allen.
