Some of you may already have heard about this. My grandson goes to school here and became violently ill during the night last Thursday night. He continued to vomit well into Friday afternoon. I think it is too much of a coencidence that 70% of the student population was out sick. I wish the school would come forward and be truthful if the kids got food poisoning at school. I sure hope the school has at least been THROUGHLY cleanned and sanitized.

The more I think about this I'm sure they had to have gotten food poisoning at school. My daugher called me at 6am worried it was food poisoning because he was vomiting so badly. I shared a dessert with him on Thursday night from the same spoon and never got sick either did anyone else.
When she called the school at 7:30 she was told she was the 80th parent to call in and within a few hours we were told 70% of the kids were home sick.
I'm curious anyone else from Boon home with this on Friday? if so did anyone else in your household get it?

There is a stomach bug that seems to be going around -- lasts 24 hours (give or take). Two friends have it going through their households. Their kids are at different schools. May just be that a whole bunch of Boone students caught the stomach bug. Or it could be food poisoning. We may never know.
Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it.

It could be that a food borne virus was passed by a food prep worker causing a large initial outbreak.
When those that were infected but showed no symptomatology went to school they could have further increased the pool of infected students.
Transmission could have been by feces left on the hands or a cough or sneeze. Different viruses are spread by different routes. Orally transmitted viruses tend to cause more GI symptoms though.
"Food poisoning" is such a nebulous term that it is rarely used to describe an illness.
I would expect nothing from AISD even if they had patient zero identified.

My son goes to school at Boon and was sick Thurday night well into Friday. According to the school, the ruled out food poising because it affected kids who had brought their lunches from home.. very strange. I sure would like to know what made these kids so sick all at the same time. I have never seen anything like it.

I highly doubt this was a foodborne illness. The kids got sick just a few hours after eating lunch that day. Almost all foodborne illnesses typically have to incubate 8-12 hours before symtoms are obvious. However, viruses are much more aggressive and communicable. People often tend to blame stomach/digestive issues on bad food they ate at some restaurant or school. In reality, widespread illnesses like this are typically viral in nature.

This is definately not a food borne illness.
Symptoms include violent vomiting, extreme fatigue, and flu like body aches.
The symptoms appear about two days after exposure and last 24 hours.
It is very contagious. It is not just affecting the students and staff.
Anyone exposed to people who are ill, even for a small amount of time will get it as well.
It is not a case of if, it is a case of when.
This is some really awful stuff.
If you feel strange at all, stay home!

I hope the CDC can isolate the virus or bacteria.

When was the PRIMARY infection?
Bottom line is no one will ever know. It could be a virus with a 29 hour prodrom and the infection occurred at lunch the previous day with spreading of the virus occurring anytime after infection.
It is most certainly a virus though probably a Norovirus.
Keep in mind that if a Noro infected person spreads the virus to a hard surface such as a table and a well person touches that hard surface and then self infects they too will become ill.

My grandson buys his lunch that's part of the reason I think it was the food.
I'm not talking about a virus that is going around. I shared a spoon with him on Thursday night if this is the virus that is so contagious why didn't I or anyone else in the family get it. He did not experience any other virus symptoms such a body aches or fever, just the heavy vomiting that goes along with food poisoning. I don't expect that they'll ever tell us what happened I just hope that the school has been totally sanitized.

It has to be viral. My 5th grader was extremely ill from Thurs - Sunday. On Sunday morning, my husband became violently ill as well. He just finished radiation treatment 3 weeks ago and his immune system is very weakened. Thankfully, neither myself or my 6th grader have been impacted.
It was not a fun weekend.

It's not a foodborne illness. Just because you licked a spoon from a person that has a virus, does not ensure that you will indeed get ill. I feel confident that AISD, City Health Dept or County Health Dept would have released a statement if they would have determined that it was a foodborne illness issue.

My daughters go to Marion, and one became ill with exactly the same symptoms Thursday night into Friday. My other daughter and I became ill Saturday night, and my husband on Sunday. My other three children have not come down with it yet, but also do not go to Marion. Several kids were out with it as well, including 3 out of 5 teachers in one grade. What we had is definitely viral...vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chills, and body aches. The worst of it was over in 24 hours...but it was a miserable 24 hours!!
