New Review Feature.
The Allen Online Business Directory has been redesigned. The directory includes, Businesses Listed Alphabetically and Businesses Listed by Category. In addition, you will find Neighbor Reviews for each listing. The Neighbor Reviews format is different from the Allen Talk format.

Neighbor Reviews Posting Guidelines:
Reviews must be first-hand experiences. If you wish to comment about a review you should place your post in the Allen Talk forums. This will open a discussion and Allen Talk is the best place for discussions.

Example 1: Where should I place my review about a local restaurant I visited last night?
If the restaurant is an Allen Online advertiser use the Neighbor Reviews. If the restaurant is not an Allen Online advertiser place your review in the Restaurant Talk forum in the Allen Talk forums.

Example 2: I would like to ask for recommendations for a good plumber?
Post your question in the Allen Talk forums to open a discussion.

Over the years many of you have posted your experiences with Allen merchants, shops and services. Your experiences have been very helpful to your neighbors. If you would like to repost your review in the Neighbor Reviews please do.

Click here to visit the Neighbor Reviews.

Thanks,
Web

This is confusing. A business gets ratings that have a certain number of stars. However, the overall rating is something different. It also indicates a certain number of votes(?) which is different than the number of reviews.

For example, if a business had 3 reviews all of which were 5 stars one would think it is a wonderful place. However, the overall rating is something less than 5 and there are 11 votes(?). That would seem to imply someone thought the place was less than stellar.

Are these ratings meaningful and if so how? Oh, and I too wrote a review that was not terrible but less than 5 stars and it never made it.

I myself have been trying to track down the situation with the voting. I was under the impression that the program did not let a user vote without placing a review. This would of course result in let's say 5 votes and 5 reviews with the appropriate rating displayed. In addition, you are now the second person that said that they placed a review and it did not get published. Yesterday I was informed for the first time about this problem. Obviously, I need to get some tech support to solve this situation as something beyond my observation is taking place.

I know the review program is designed to automatically remove spam posts. Perhaps it is mistaking some legitimate reviews. Personally the only reviews I have removed was a one word review, another laced with profanity, and one that was given over to the business in question to deal with. In these situations an explanation was sent to the poster why their review was rejected. If anyone is curious there are a number of negative comments in the new review section and a number in the Allen Talk forums.

I will try to fix this ASAP.

Tech support informs me that you can rate/vote for a business without being required to post an actual review. Move your mouse over the stars or the words "rate this listing." This will of course result in more votes than actual reviews.
