I know they have been talking about it but I'm not sure they have implemented it yet. I remember there was a link on their website about it.

Dallas does it, but it wouldn't suprise me if Allen doesn't. They don't seem to be very technology-focused. Like for instance, I wish the Summer Book Club was on the internet, where you could sign up and log your books online. They just have basic information about it and no details. I would have joined if I could do it electronically. Unfortunately, I don't have time to go hang out and explore at the library. I just put the books I want on hold and run in to pick them up and then run out.

Someone told me that Frisco does it, and that Allen residents are eligible for a Frisco library card.
Two plus two equals five, for sufficiently large values of two.

Both Frisco and McKinney have large selections of digital books. Frisco has a more generous policy regarding number of books "checked out" and holds. However, you tend to wait longer for Frisco books so keep your hold list maxed out if you're a big reader.
The one thing I dislike about both libraries' policies is when you check out a book it's for 14 days - whether you are finished or not. I'm always finished early and would like to be able to "return" the book early so someone else can enjoy it.
Both libraries allow you to register for your library card online but you must go to the actual brick-mortar building to be official. McKinney has a branch on Eldorado east of Alma - a very quick trip. However Frisco Library is in their City Hall building up by Pizza Hut park.

Most recent versions of Overdrive (the platform for these library's ebook readers) allow early return of borrowed books. It can be done directly on some reading devises (e.g. IPad) but has to be done using both the reader (e.g. Nook, Sony eReader) and the PC used to download and transfer the ebook to the reader.

The Allen library now is set up to check out e-books. I'm not sure when they started, but my daughter checked some out yesterday on her iPod.

Has anyone had any updated experience with this?
We recently got an iPad, and I briefly looked at the offerings from the Allen library, and there was literally nothing I was even remotely interested in reading. I was looking for popular books and new books and they weren't offered. The search function is horrible, and there doesn't seem to be very many books available(excluding those that do not have copywrites).
Do I have this correct?

Unfortunately Allen does have a limited offering... but at least they are finally offering something!
Make the trip to McKinney and Frisco, it's worth it. You only have to do it once and then you can do all your browsing and checking out online. Yes, sometimes you have to wait awhile for a new or popular book but you should be able to find titles to occupy you until it's your turn.
Plano finally has e-books but I haven't looked at what they've got yet.
Also, if you are an Amazon Prime member there's lots of books you can borrow from there too using the Kindle app.
I use the Kindle app on my iPad and it automatically syncs with my iPhone Kindle app... not that I read much on the phone (old eyes) but it's great when I have an few unexpected minutes when I need to entertain myself and don't have my iPad.

I wish our library would get with the program and be more online user friendly. I hate having to find my card to get my number off every time I search for something, and I'd really like to be able to get more details about programs and other things than just brief blurbs and call this number for more.
I'd love to be able to sign up for the summer reading program online.

Both my laptop browser (Foxfire) and Safari on my iPad remember my number and pin. If yours doesn't check your security settings.
