Growing up in the 70's, I've had a liberal exposure to many types of music. Maybe five years ago, my wife stumbled across a live concert that captivated us from the first song and we've been hooked since. Blue October's front man Justin Furstenfeld is simply the most incredibly talented music writer, producer and singer of his time. The music is a raw autobiography of his highs and lows growing up with schizophrenia, his relationships, his divorce and now custody battle for his two year old daughter. I've never before experienced such raw emotion and honesty in any music. From the band's inception, they've experimented with indy, folk, rock and in their most recent album, hip-hop. I would have never ever dreamed I'd be listening to hip-hop that I enjoyed, but two songs inject just enough to put them in a completely new place. Justin really does wear his heart on his sleeve and if you've followed them for any length of time, you begin to cheer for him a your own son, it's really that personal. The cult like following is a true depiction of the utter honesty in every word. Blue October kicked off their world tour right here in Dallas last week and you would be hard set to find a single person at the show who couldn't recite every song word for word, again it's just that personal and honest. If you've followed this band for any time, the newly released album "Any Man in America" will blow you away. If it's your first time with the band, beware, this is far and away their most raw, angry, sad but then joyful album of all time. This is not an album you want to share with your children as the lyrics are powerful and possibly not suited for little ears. The melody and flow of this album is what strikes me more than anything else. The use of violin and piano to shape the emotion is pure genius. I can't say enough to praise this band and their latest album. This will be a rock anthem.

If you've ever experienced hardship, divorce, child custody battles, you'll feel every word of this "no holds barred" album.
