My oldest just entered 7th grade at Curtis Middle school, and I am just shocked that there are no crossing guards to help the kids get safely across Rivercrest or Malone. Are they short-staffed, or have there never been any at the school? It just seems like a major accident waiting to happen. These kids go from a very controlled release in elementary to complete freedom at Curtis. I swear half of them don't even look before darting out into traffic.

I don't think any of the middle schools have them.

I have never seen a crossing guard at any middle school, Allen or beyond.

I was wondering the same thing when I picked up my 7th grader from school yesterday but I realized that I've never seen a crossing guard their before.
I think the kids are now old enough to look both ways. I know when I pulled out onto Malone, every kid crossing the street took their time to look both ways, sideways, crossways, etc.

I know there was a CG West of CMS on Rivercrest last yr. It's the 3 way intersection just West of Country...but that's been the only one I see on my morning route w/ a CG.

That crossing guard is there for Anderson Elementary.
I think by the time kids are in 7th grade they are old enough to know to look both ways before they cross the street.

Middle school students should be mature enough to cross the street without a crossing guard. My girls were taught to look both ways before crossing the street when they were three.

I looked today, and there is a crossing guard at Ford where Park Place curves in front of the school. Not sure if its an actual crossing guard or a teacher who happens to have that duty.

Please remember that at crosswalks pedestrians have the right of way. Kids may be old enough to cross; however a driver is required to stop at a crosswalk. I don't know how many schools I drive by where drivers fail to stop at the crosswalk.

The one near Ford might be there because there are some kids that go to Rountree that live on the other side of Park Place. I think there is an apartment complex there.

The people helping kids cross after school at Ford are teachers.
