Often we see people criticize the APD here on these forums. Now, nobody is a bigger liberal/libertarian than I.
Still, what would our community be like if we treated all teens with kid gloves? If we did not allow homeowners the right to forcefully defend their property? If the police did not come trained, armed, and ready (for violence) when we call?
Well, we might be like the UK!
The video below is from the UK in 2009 and shows a young thug (called "yobs" or "Chavs" in the UK) trespassing and threatening a homeowner. Notice how bold the Chav is, notice the police never show up!
Notice, too, what happens about 1/2 way through the film.
NOTE: Some foul language in the sound track and on the comments below the film.

Also please note that the homeowner, who had called the police 50 times about harrassment, is a former member of the British Army, a Gulf War vet, and the holder of TWO blackbelts!

As a holder of 6 black belts, I can tell you what I would have done.

When society is too permissive and the thugs know the homeowners no longer have the ability to defend themselves with a firearm, they get bolder and bolder.
Bet you the police would be at his home in 90 seconds if there was reports of him shooting the little punk. He got what he deserved, maybe he'll not show back up again but I doubt it.

The kid never got all he deserved, because he tucked his tail and wobbled off as they say. But this didn't have anything to do with the police like I thought. This appeared more like the American punk crowd trying to instigate a fight and make their trashy video. This is what Americans need to stop, but won't be able to.

Yep.
The title of the thread is rather a commentary toward people who always cry when the APD "rousts their little woogums."
I am not a Hobbesian, but I do believe, as did Hobbes, that without constraint, people in society do devolve into savagery...as this punk did; and as a significant percentage of the youth in the UK.
In the UK, homeowners have been arrested and put in prison for confronting punks. Notice how the homeowner in the film did not strike until he had been struck....the Brits need to man-up with their laws IMO.
As to the punk in the film, he was mocked viciously on the internet, and the Sun newspaper had him on the front page. He is now has a lawsuit against the Sun for "ruining" his life. He says "I have nothing to apologize for." He was arrested and given a fine; not sure how much.
Shows what kind of attitudes develope when kids are treated like little kings (as they are in UK schools) and never disciplined.

That's what happens when society get carried away with being too liberal. Once this guy steps into the other persons yard and acts in a threatening manner, whatever happens to him is his own doing.
It's really sad how homeowners are treated over there and it is a sign of things to come here if we keep going down the permissive path.

Maybe the loser guy is smarter than we think...He was awarded $200,000 pounds by the daily "Sun" because of this story, he is not able to get a job...

Did he actually get that money? I saw in one place he did. In another that he was asking for that much.
If he did, well, the sun has set on the British Empire. 8(

Sure, why not give him the money since he was "victimized", then he can sit back and continue to do nothing while someone else foots the bill for that waste of life.

This was 1982 in Garland.
A neighbor of mine in his early 30's, in an apartment complex I used to live in, was basically assaulted by two minors in front of his car much the same way that the man is the video was, except there were two of them. He tried to get around them but they were angry because he had told on one of them for some destruction to boats in the boat parking area. The neighbor finally flattened one of the kids, the other kid ran home and told his parents they were attacked.
The police came and took my neighbor from his apartment to jail for assaulting a minor. Too bad we didn't have video cameras and cell phones in those days.
I didn't see the incident, but I did tell the police those boys terrorize the neighborhood and I'm sure they provoked the fight. The Police said its against the law to strike a minor... period.
I understand later he was not formally charged, I'm not sure what happened, I know he was taken away in handcuffs.
I heard the boy that was hit later went to jail for breaking and entering.
It is hard to deal with crazy teens with or without police assistance.
