I was asked about a restaurant I referenced in another forum (Allen Restaurants) and since it's not in Allen decided to post it here for anyone interested.

It's a family owned and operated establishment called Amigos, located in Richardson, east of 75 on Beltline. No big sign or anything (not allowed by city) but word of mouth has given this place overwhelming success! Check out their website for menu & prices.

The same family operates a restaurant in west Richardson called Frankies. And I've recently been told about a third restaurant in Plano called Casa Mama's. While I've been to Amigos (my personal favorite) and Frankies, I have yet to try Casa Mama's.

In addition, next to Amigos is a taqueria that is also owned by the family. They opened it as an overflow for patrons of Amigos - yes, it is THAT good. The tacos are delicious but straight from the owners mouth "not too healthy as they are authentic with authentic ingredients"!

Bon Appetit!

Thank you Jimenez family for bringing us such great food! Wish you would bring it to Allen!!

Yes, Amigos is pretty good. I've been to Frankie's too since they're right down the road from my job. Good stuff.

5 stars for Casa Mama in east Plano. If anyone here in Allen happens to know the area, it's in the old Doey Joey's storefront at 14th & Los Rios (Kroger shopping center).

VERY good food (esp their chips/salsa!), and the greeters and wait staff are very outgoing.

I've been meaning to try Amigos. It's right by my mechanic and he and his guys eat lunch there a lot (I've shown up in time to see them walking back to the shop).
Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it.

Well that is too funny! I was actually going to ask if you were referring to Amigos. It is our favorite place to eat Mexican food. We go for lunch after church sometimes - the lunch enchilada meal is only $5!

How are the crispy tacos? Are the shells pre-formed like taco bell or are the shells fried with the meat in them?

I don't know how either of those are, but I can tell you that the sour cream enchiladas are fantastic!

My Mom used to fry the corn tortillas with the meat, cheese and chiles in it pinned shut with a toothpick so the insides wouldnt fall out in the oil. YUMMY!! Is there a place around the area that does tacos like that?

I have not seen that specific taco but El Grande Burrito has all of the ingredients you listed - not sure about the toothpick. I mention them because I have gone in and asked for things that I had a hankering for. The dishes were not specifically on the menu but they made them for me if they had the ingredients.

This is one of my favorite Tex-Mex spots in the area. Good food and really nice people.

Tupinambas fry their meat tacos. I love their fried Tacos. There is two Tupinambas Mexican.. one is in Dallas on Hillcrest and one in Frisco..Dallas Tollway and Lebanon (spelling?)on the southeast corner.

Posados has fried tacos. There's one on Central just South of Spring Creek in Plano.

Tupinamba's is at Dallas Tollway and Inwood, where it branches off just south of 635. Their food has declined in quality in years past. We've been regulars at their Sunday brunch for ages, and they've really screwed up with adding more seating and taking away a couple of the buffet tables. The owner is an awesome guy, so he makes sure to bring us a ton of flan (only made Sunday!) when we arrive!

Desperados off Campbell in Garland is our GO TO for the good stuff. Their margarita Wednesdays are a great deal and definitely NOT weak!

Mom would just put the toothpick through them to keep them closed while frying them. I will have to check out the restaurants that have fried tacos.

Good stuff. And run by a friend of mine from St. Jude.

And a happy birthday to you, kgw71!

Salsas at Legacy and Custer has very good food. They have brisket tacos that are out of this world!
