This is our dog, Katie. We adopted her just over 10 years ago from the SPCA of Texas. She is just over 12 years old now. She was a very skinny dog and her whole life is focused around food. She did get a little chubby, but we now measure her food to slim her down (according to our vets instructions) to the right size, but she is always looking for opportunity to eat more. It is just something that is inherent to hound dogs - they want to constantly eat!
Anyway, I had a nursery pot I had meant to empty, because the plant had died, but had only tossed the plant into the compost bag. I went inside and a short time later I came out to find that she had picked up the pot of soil and carried it to her dog bed where she was obviously going through it trying to find something in there to eat! She does have that "just got caught" look on her face. I just wanted to share this with the people of Allen in case you are thinking of getting a bassett hound. In case you already have one, you already know about their level of intelligence - some say they are stubborn, but I just think on a measuring stick of intelligence, they are towards the bottom. We still love her. She is a sweet dog.

Ah, maybe she was just sprucing her place up. A little throw on the couch, a potted plant for color....That is pretty brilliant!

That's too funny! Maybe she was looking for something like that "new car smell" everyone wants for their car's interior. Maybe more like "fresh dirt smell"

Dogs like stinky things, so maybe that is why she did it. Years ago we had a dog who would get out occasionally and come back smelling like she rolled in something dead. Dogs just do some gross things.
