How is the Allen Event Center doing? Is the city making a profit?

Well, just over a year ago, it wasn't.
Not sure if that's changed. I'll keep searching ....

I don't know if they are making a profit but it does seem to my personal observation that the city has done a better job of booking events than Global Entertainment did. It seemed to me that Global got stars in their eyes when they got Reba McIntire and were too focused on going after big splashy names rather than just getting bookings. I attended the Eddie Money concert and they had a good sized crowd. Personally I don't care if the city doesn't ever make money on it as long as it's not a big drain because having it there brings in traffic that makes Allen a place where individuals and companies want to be.

I'm sure it is much less of a drain on the taxpayers than the football stadium will be. That's something, right?

They also have the Texas Stampede with Josh Turner and Joe Nichols the weekend of November 10th and Chicago with the Dallas Pops on December 10th. It's actually a really nice place for a concert. It's small enough that there isn't a bad seat in the house. Plus the parking is free and I believe you can go to the box office to get tickets and avoid the obnoxious TicketMaster fees. The Allen Americans are really fun to go see as well. My teenage daughters have been turned into hockey fans by the Americans.

If anyone's still reading this thread, I wrote a story about the Event Center's financial state in July. At that time, the Event Center was in a $400,000 deficit, but things could have improved since. Here's the story:

I'm planning on writing a follow-up story with more up-to-date information, including what has become of the $546,000 the city says it is owed by Global, as soon as it becomes available.
