It's that time of year again, where we face the increased likelihood of severe weather as we head into storm season. That means it's time to change the batteries in your weather radios and test them to be sure they are working correctly. Although they work off of your home power, they also have a battery backup and you'll need to put new batteries in your weather radio to have continued service from your weather radio if the power goes out.
It's also time to review your severe weather plan, to make sure your family knows what to do and where to go in the case of severe weather coming through our area.
Meant to post this yesterday but didn't get online to do so, thought today would be a good day to do it since we are expecting a severe weather outbreak today in 'Dixie Alley'. After last years horrible events and the terrible storms of the other day, let's hope the storms and damage are minimized.

DO NOT RELY ON OUTDOOR WEATHER SIRENS FOR SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS!!!!!
They are designed to warn people outdoors, not in their homes at 3AM. So PLEASE, DO NOT rely on the outdoor sirens! Invest $30 in a weather radio, treat it as a safety measure and an inexpensive one at that. Besides, these new outdoor sirens are hard enough to hear outdoors, don't expect them to be heard indoors unless it's completely quiet with no wind and you have your windows open and are awake. ;)

It sure has been a lousy (destructive) week!!! And this may be the pattern for our Season some think? My thoughts are with all those affected.
Yep, I've been working my plan, and radio as well.

Warning sirens are designed for people that are OUTSIDE to seek shelter inside. And what do people do? They hear the siren inside and go OUTSIDE to see what is going on!!

You're right. One citizen, during the storm that clobbered part of the Metroplex (and downtown Fort Worth), came to my Station....and asked what the sirens meant? I told him he should have stayed home instead of running around.
Like Maurice says, it's that time of year again.
