Although I am not a gardener (wish I was but I have a brown thumb)I enjoy reading all the topics you all post here about what you are growing in your gardens. I am wondering how you will water them if we stay in Stage 3 restrictions. Are you exempt because you are providing food for your family? I just hadn't read anything about this on the city website or I missed it.

We are not restricted from hand watering - i.e., standing there by the garden holding the hose as we water our plants. We are restricted from using any kind of sprinkler system except for on the designated days within a certain time frame (before 10 am and after 6 pm). The current restrictions should not be any problem for gardeners. Most plants that are established should do fine getting watered only a couple times a month by sprinkler system. If anything else needs a little more water, we can either use water from our rain barrels or from our hoses. And, of course, no matter how one waters, it is always best to water early in the morning and second best in the evening following the watering times designated by the city.

I am more worried about another summer like last year then the water nazis. I use a soaker hose under covered mulch so the veggies do not need too much water. What they really need is less heat - especially overnight.

Saw that the city had a nifty presentation from the water conservation manager. Good, current info http://youtu.be/nRziG68t7zY
