My husband and I were driving along Main St. on Sunday and noticed that the old catfish restaurant across from The House Cafe has been renamed and there was an "Open" sign hanging out front. I can't quite remember the name - Pollo something? Well, we stopped to give it a try and were greeted a young guy who told us they were not set up yet for credit cards but took cash only. We opted to come back as we never carry cash. We ventured on and tried La Finca instead but it occured to me that the business owner should have let us at least sample the food since we took the time to stop. Not sure we'll go back until I see some reviews. They haven't done much to renovate the place and the decor is the same.
Has anyone tried the place yet? Maybe start a new thread with the correct name.

Would Breaking Bad bring their film crew to Allen? Gus Fring would be an interesting addition to the community.

Definitely a good one, allen :) I actually have a Los Pollos Hermanos shirt that I bought on eBay - I get compliments every time I wear it.

Thanks for hijacking my thread. I guess it would be funny if I actually knew what you were talking about. Thought someone might have some info to offer on this new restaurant.

My daughter and I had dinner there tonight. She had the quesadillas I had the beef gorditas..Yum Yum! It felt like I was eating my dear moms food. We will definately be going back. The owners are also very nice people that live here in Allen.

The food was good and the prices were competitve, I just don't know if it's worth going back with better choices around. The thing that bothered me the most was that they had not changed any of the decor on the inside. All the fish and bait and tackle stuff is still on the walls. Restaurant owners too lazy to at least take the old stuff down make me nervous.

We tried Los Compadres - first, the menu is simply pictures, kind of hard to decipher what is in the dishes, our waitress was of little help there - I'm not certain she spoke any English. I chose the "Streat Tacos" and my wife got the cheese enchiladas. Our waitress went and stood at the place where you pick up the order for the rest of the time with her back to us. We managed to get another staff member to bring us drinks and chips which were a little stale. The salsa was very heavy on onion but was good. We looked around and were amused to see all of the seafaring momentos from the Reel Thing still on the walls. Did they put any effort into remaking this place at all? nope. About 20 minutes later our food arrived. the tacos looked good although the portions seemed tiny. My wifes' cheese enchiladas were covered in a sour cream sauce, she had told the waitress 'no sour cream' so back they went. I started with my dish - the rice was clumpy and tasteless. The refried beans tasted watered down and were lifeless as well. The tacos were quite good although the portions were small. Couple of bites each and they were gone. My wife's cheese enchiladas arrived with the same clumpy rice and beans. The enchiladas were covered in some kind of red sauce that tasted like an smoky tomato paste. Was it a mole sauce? not too good. The chef brought us a sopas as a make up for the sour cream issue, unfortunately it too is covered in sour cream. I peeled off the top layer of lettuce and sour cream sauce to reveal a sort of flatbread with a layer beans and what looked like chicken chopped fine. I took a bite and it was absolutely flavorless. I picked out a few pieces of the chicken and there was absolutely no flavor to whatever this was. We wrapped up quickly and left a hefty tip, actually we just didn't want to wait around for our change. We just wanted out. The absolute most disappointing meal I can remember in a long long time. I've eaten street tacos all across the Yucatan and know what real Mexican food is like. This was just sad. Good luck to them and I hope they make a go of it but we'll never be back. Jalepenos seems light years beyond this place in quality and decor.

Agree with everything you said. Food was mediocre at best. Don't get the "Open flame grilled chicken", it's covered in some chipotle type BBQ sauce...yes BBQ sauce. You would think with only 10 items on the menu they would be able to concentrate on getting those perfect, or at least good. Also agree that neither of the waitresses we had seemed to understand English. I don't get it. It's like they took the old restaurant and just backed a taco truck up to the back, unloaded, opened the front door and started serving.
There is no way this place will be open next year. Especially with El Grande Burrito and then Chito's on the way.
