Although I have seen parts of the Russian film "9th Company" I finally broke down and got the DVD.
I highly recommend this film with caveats.
There is sex and nudity (male and female) and the more tender folks may want to avoid it for that reason.
Brutal, bloody....
It is loosely based on the defence of a Soviet forward outpost in Afganistan in 1988.
It is particularly good about showing the brutality of Soviet military training.
IN addition, I particularly enjoyed the briefing on Afghanistan the intellegence officer gave the troops--see the film and see what I mean--no American film could include a scene like that.
In someways, I think the film was influenced by "Full Metal Jacket," but with that said, it is a throughly Russian film--made in post-Soviet Russia.
