The is an excellent TED presentation given by a woman from Austin. Once you watch this, you'll understand why organic food costs so much in our country, why we have the highest per capita cancer rates in the world and why untested chemicals can be added to OUR food by the same companies who remove those chemicals for their foreign exports. Europe and most of the rest of the world require proof a chemical is safe while our FDA which has been led by food industry leaders has adopted the opposite approach. We allow untested chemicals in the food chain until proven harmful. Considering the out of control obesity rate, cancer rate among both men and women, I think we may be proving these ingredients harmful. Judge for yourself. I hope you find it as informative as I have.

So what one thing can we do to get these corporations to make a change that benefits the consumer and not themselves? The majority of Americans cannot afford to shop at Whole Foods or buy organic only.
Unfortunately, it is not only the food we ingest but also the drugs we put into and on our bodies. The synthetic hormones injected into people to allow them get pregnant have increased the breast cancer rates, yet it still is prescribed on a daily basis. Of course this is just one thing -- there are many, many more.

There's one point in her presentation that is incorrect. She states these companies are buckling to consumer pressure in Europe and Canada, but in reality, they're buckling to governments that put science and their population at the top of the priority list rather than corporate profit. Our policy is opposite.
