Does anyone have an INDOOR HDTV antenna that actually gets good reception for ALL the local channels?
I'm still thinking about cutting the cable cord for good! The family has been watching Netflix/Amazon via the Roku for over a month now. I have FOUR kids 13 and younger. NONE of them miss cable TV.
Time to cut the cord but I'd like to know others in Allen can clearly pick up all the local stations, mainly 4,5,8,11 and 21.
Thank!

We get those channels with our antenna in the attic and a converter box.
Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it.

You will get better reception from an outdoor antenna. Is there a reason you are not able to use one? Ours is not too large and my husband easily installed it on to the roof-line of the garage.

I sometimes use a set of rabbit ear antenna to watch over the air broadcasts in HD, when our U-Verse DVR has all 4 HD feeds in use simultaneously (don't ask ) and have a very difficult time getting ABC/Ch 8 to come in.
The Fox Ch 4 signal isn't the strongest either, but NBC, CBS and PBS almost always come in fine. Unfortunately so do about 30 other channels of Spanish, Religious and general junk programming, so I've found that it's easier to manually "tune" the 5 or 6 channels I would normally use, then to let my TV "auto-tune" all available ones in.

The reason you have trouble with ABC/8-1 is because they are the only OTA channel in the area that broadcasts on the VHF band instead of UHF. The VHF is typically more difficult to receive by smaller antennas or those that weren't designed for VHF reception.

We did the same thing a little over a year ago, never regretted it. I bought a large outdoor antenna and put it up inside in my attic, i get perfect reception on all channels. I also bought a Tivo Premier, so I can record/DVR all of the network/local shows I want, although that does cost $9/mo for the service. Between that and the Roku boxes we have, I get tons of TV material for a very very low price. The kids dont really seem to miss it much at all.

I would be very happy to find an online option that carried live programming ala carte. I pay for 450 channels and literally watch maybe a dozen of them. I know there are a few companies trying to do this, but the major media outlets are fighting it tooth and nail.

Ok, I am going to have to look up this coat hanger antenna. The majority of our shows can be watched online with the exception of some sports, so we may have to look into it.

my plain old Radio Shack antenna in the attic that I bought 20 years ago gets 61 channels facing toward Dallas. Although, 2/3 of those channels are foreign language or religious. I've built several homebrew antennas that worked ok, but so far the old one in the attic is the best. I bought a table top "HDTV" antenna for grins one time, it was worthless.

I use Netflix for most of the content, alot of shows available on there, just not live. I also bought a service called PlayOn (http://www.playon.tv/) - it was $79 for lifetime service, and came with a free Roku box ($49 value). PlayOn has a ton of content, and even has some live channels available if you know where to look. The interface is a bit clunky, and it is not yet HD, but I really enjoy the service.

The hanger antenna sounds interesting but then I heard a voice in my head say, "You might be a redneck if you use a hanger for an antenna".
This is a good HDTV antenna that has worked well for me and some of my neighbors.

Also in the HD forums a lot of users in the Parker/Allen area have had great luck with the Channel Master CM 4228 in the attic.

BASSMAN,
What does DYI mean?
Anyway, The hanger thingy does work except when we try to run the microwave when I am watching channels 27-52. It goes . Now I am missing Leave to Beaver in the evenings because of "no signal" BASSMAN says it is because of the spring trees budding or something. I guess I won't complain too much since it's FREE.
