Rack Room Shoes Contest
Our school is eligible for a $50,000 school beautification grant, but we need your help to win. The winner will be chosen by online voting. Limit one vote per person per day.
Voters are not restricted to those attending Chandler. Please ask your family and friends to vote for Chandler everyday through May 7th!!!
Our school will appear on the Rack Room Shoes Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/myrackroomshoes and on www.rackroomshoes.com .
Search by Texas Schools and find Carlena Chandler Elementary school.
The online voting period for this contest begins on April 24, 2012 at 11:00:00 AM ET and ends on May 7, 2012 at 9:00:00 PM ET.

My oldest daughter went through the Learn N Play program a few years ago. Chandler is a very nice school, which makes me wonder why it's being considered for a school beautification grant...

You are absolutely correct that Chandler is a beautiful school that is in great shape since it is relatively new. However, It is not about pretty vs run down school or rich school vs poor school. It has to do with enriching the children’s education by adding an outdoor classroom. This would make it easier for kids to connect with nature while learning about it and their environment. This is a contest similar to the one that Lucas Christian Academy won with Kohl’s that awarded them a tremendous amount of money. Chandler is the only school in Allen ISD that signed up and was accepted into the contest. Please show your support for Chandler, Allen ISD, and your community by voting and voting often. You can vote every day until the end of the contest but it looks like they interpret a day as 24 hours since I have not been able to vote again today.
The name Beautification Grant is, in my opinion, misleading. The grant is for projects that had to be approved by Rack Room Shoes before being approved to be in the contest. The project simply had to benefit the school and the children. The other schools around Texas and the country stated that they would use the grant for everything from mulch in the playground to renovating classrooms. There are a few other schools that are stating they would use the money for outdoor classrooms or outdoor reading areas just as we are.

Ahh, gotcha. Makes sense. No doubt, I believe schools should receive what's deserved for them, especially if they were the only one that signed up.

Will do. The contest runs through 9pm on May 7th and since it is online voting I imagine that they will have the results pretty quickly. The site states "on or around" May 15th the sponsor will award the prize to the winning school. It does not say how much notice you get before the sponsor shows up with that giant check. Let's hope that we are one of the schools that is forced to find a giant bank that accepts those giant checks.

Hopefully the word is getting around. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing how we are doing until the rep either shows up or doesn't show. We all need to spread the word so that one of our Allen schools can be improved on someone else's dime. I know the kids would really enjoy the outdoor classroom.
