I wanted to know if any of you ever had any experience with Gary Hefner with the Allen Animal Clinic? My beagle was acting very lathargic when I arrived home from work yesterday & thought I would have him checked out. It was about 5:45 & knowing most clinics close at 6, I arrived at Allen Animal Clinic 7 minutes later. I spoke to the receptionist & she proceeded to get the Vet. He appeared in the doorway & asked where I normally take him & why didn't I take him there? I told him that I couldn't make it there in time because they were further away & close at 6. He then states that they too close at 6. Noticing his rude & condecending tone, I offered to take him elsewhere. He sighed & said "well your hear now". At 6:07 he swiped my credit card for services rendered. If he hadn't spent so much time on what time it was, he would have been able to close by 6. Needless to say I won't be going back to Gary Hefner.

Dr Hefner saved my Chihuahua's life in March of last year. Dr White was great too. My 10 yr old fur baby developed a very bad infection in her uterus (pymetra MSP?)because I didn't have her fixed. This is very common in dogs and cats that aren't spayed and I looked it up and she needed immediate surgery. They explained everything to me and the surgery was risky because she has a very large heart murmer. They offered to send her to a surgical center for animals but said they thought that they could monitor her carefully during surgery and she would be ok. I let him do it and she came through it just fine and after care was satisfactory as well. About 3 months ago she poked a hole in her eye with her doo claw (or whatever it's called) and developed a bad eye infection. Dr Hefner and Dr White both took care of her and again her eye was saved. I know several people that use this Dr. and never complained. Maybe he was having an exceptionally bad day when you went. Anyway, I hope your fur baby is doing ok.

Sorry you had a bad experience.
I have gone to them ever since I have lived in Allen (1994) and never had any problem, they are always willing to work with me and have taken excellent care of my Yorkie (she had a hernia and has a slightly in larged liver) - There was a time I had to call the emergency line and Dr. White called me back right away and talked me through my little emergency. :o)
Hope your baby is fine now.

I took one of our dogs there a long time ago with a slight case of heartworms and went there to check on him. They told me to go on back and visit with him, so I went on back and he was in his cage dead.

Dr.hefner is very matter of fact and can be gruff. Dr.White is Thecomplete opposite. Don't let this one visit turn you off. We used Dr.hefner for years until our dog died. When my daughter got her own dog she was 11 so we went to dr.overton because he was great with kids and our daughter was solely responsible for the care of her dog. Well dr O is gone and the place is not the same. Daughter is an adult now and we have returned to Hefner. We are very happy with everyone especially the tech staff

Are you really serious about this or are you joking?

My boys went to the vets at that office for their veterinary medicine merit badge for Boy Scouts. They were all very friendly and helpful there. We usually use another vet in town, but did go to the vets there with our dog once and were very pleased. Everyone there was very friendly and I've known Dr. Hefner for a long time. He let me visit for a day when I was in high school because at the time I was interested in veterinary medicine. Of course, at that young age, you know how minds change about careers multiple times . . .

We take our pets to the Allen Animal Clinic. We think they are exellent vets.
Now, Hefner is old school...the perfect image of the old timey vet, but that is part of his charm.
Our experience with them is great care!

Anothere point of reference, we have been going to Dr. Jerry Wilson at Animal Hospital of Collin County since the mid-80s. Great and caring doctor and wonderful staff. I know people that come up from Richardson just to see him. Cannot say enough good things about Jerry - he has been there from briths to deaths and everything in between for a number of my dogs and been loving and caring each and every time.

Thats really an effort you are making and i like that. We used to do that for our long time back. We also used to take assistance from veterinary pharmacist on that issue from a vendor named compoundia pharmacy. they are really of great help for pet lovers. You may Google them out for any assistance.

He can come off a little condescending or rude, but honestly he is great! I went to dr overtons office with my dog, and i ended up switching because my sister took her cat to get nutured there and when he was acting weird took him back and we learned that even though they had him for two days and he was sidated when she picked him up, he wasnt ever nutured. when i switched i was so pleased
he really is fantastic with them, and has this way of working with them, he a farm dr though they tend to be a little more condescending, but he is fantastic so is Dr bailey I REALLY like both of them
