I have been reading some reviews on Kerr Elementary. Some good and some bad as expected. I was looking for some more reviews on the school. Any positives or negatives would be greatly appreciated.

My child would be coming from a private school going into 1st grade. The current school my child is in has small classes. So I am a little concerned on the class size. I have visited the school once and they were very unfriendly to both my child and I. So of course we got off on a bad start. I would love to hear other parents views though. I know first appearance is not everything. Thank You.

Our child went to Kerr for four years. Our experience was that most of the teachers are very good. Our child learned the things she needed to learn and got adequate academic support. Class sizes are kind of large (in most Texas ISD's now unfortunately) compared to private school but were workable. Building/equipment was in good shape; support staff, cafeteria workers, etc. were fine. Other families at Kerr are mostly super nice. The only real downside for us was the principal. Our experience was that she was very cold and unfriendly and definitely not pro-parent/pro-family involvement. She may do well at other things in her job but parent communication, building partnerships with parents, creating a warm and welcoming environment are not her strong suits. I thought maybe all Allen principals were like this but they are not. My child is at another school now and there is a night and day difference. My opinion bottom line is that based on our experiences, your child will get a good education, be safe, and have congenial classmates but your experiences with the principal will be on the chilly side. Good luck! I know making the transition from kinder to 1st with a change of school is worrisome.

My opinion of Kerr Elementary is very good. My son is in 2nd grade which is his first year at Kerr and we love it to death. The teachers and staff are super nice and they actually seem like they care. It feels like a big family environment to me and I'm glad we moved to the area.

Can anyone give me an idea on the class sizes? Do they have teachers aides in the classes also? My child's class is very small right now so we get a lot of one on one attention. I know it definitely will not be the same in a public school but just trying to get a feel for the classes. Just a little worried because Kerr seems to have the lowest rating out of all the Allen Elementary schools. I know this could be biased and be certain parents but just trying to figure out what we will do!!!
