I am 4 months pregnant now. My assignment from my last checkup was to tour and choose a hospital. My OB goes to Allen Presbyterian, McKinney Medical and Baylor Frisco.

Both the McKinney and Allen hospitals are about the same distance from my house. I am leaning towards Allen Presbyterian, but I just want to know some of your opinions to see if it's worth my time to check out McKinney too. Thanks!

Allen Presby did not have a good NICU when I delivered in 2007. I never thought to check because surely my baby wouldn't come early and wouldn't need the NICU. WRONG. I did not have a good experience with that hospital stay.

I delivered at McKinney in 1999 and had a great experience. But that was a while ago. ;)

Baylor Frisco is amazing. I would go there if I had a choice.
Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it.

Will work for shoes!

I had a baby at McKinney in 2000, and babies in Allen in 2004, 2006, and 2009. I had very good experiences with both but really liked Allen, especially with my last baby.

Well, I didn't have a baby, but I was at Baylor Frisco in April, and it is beautiful! The care is fantastic. It is a doctor owned hospital, and the rooms are almost like mini suites, with a fold out couch for spouses if they want to stay. I highly suggest at least checking it out.

In 2005 my daughter was pregnant and had a doctor who officed at Allen Presby and, of course, practiced there. I won't go into all the details, but he almost killed my daughter and her unborn child. The staff did nothing to advocate for my daughter. Everybody told me we should have sued the doctor and the hospital. I was so grateful to get her out of there, I never did anything except fire him as her doctor.

After a week of repeated visits to the OB/GYN unit, they FINALLY Careflighted her down to Baylor Dallas. She did great there and my wonderful grandson was born there. My other daughter and I have both had hospital stays at Baylor Plano and it was wonderful. So, I would go with a Baylor Hospital any day over Allen Presby.

I have never been in the McKinney Hospital, but have heard many times from different people that they would never want to be taken there.

Good luck!

I really recommend Baylor Frisco, too. I've heard bad things about McKinney and Allen....from the people that work there!!

Thanks everybody. I'd really like to be close to home, but hubby and I have decided we'd tour all three and ask the doctor more questions before we decide. I am 35+ so I do worry about complications, and that's the most important consideration over other luxuries the advertise.

I was surprised to see that when I checked out the hospitals' web pages they bragged about how wonderful their suites were with TV and DVD player, etc. but none ever mentioned safety measures like how they make sure no strangers take my baby out of the L&D ward. Do they know what parents really care about, or am I just too paranoid?

Honestly if there's a significant concern about complications I would go to a bigger hospital than Allen or McKinney. With my 3rd child we went to Allen, the birth went fine but there was an unexpected birth defect. They took all day to get an MRI, and really didn't seem to handle things out of the ordinary. That was 9 years ago. 3 years ago I was put into the hospital for a couple of weeks with high blood pressure during a pregnancy, when things got touchy they ended up transferring me to Dallas Presbyterian to deliver.

If you are concerned than you want to make sure your hospital has a NICU, I know that 3 years ago Baylor Frisco did not have one. I do not know about Allen or McKinney if they have a NICU.

Our pediatrician is at Presby Allen, but that's the ONLY thing we go there for.

We had to use the Presby Allen's pathology lab downstairs several times when my son was a newborn and I came close to strangling them. They have NO sense of urgency, dont give a rat's butt if you have a fussy newborn or if just waiting for someone.... At one point, they were all sitting around eating BIRTHDAY CAKE and it took me actually walking into their office and interrupting them, just to get checked in.

My wife and I had our baby at Baylor Frisco earlier this year and it was a FANTASTIC experience.
