Keep Allen Beautiful and Allen Garden Club are hosting a National Planting Day on Saturday, September 29 in cooperation with Keep America Beautiful’s inaugural National Planting Day on September 8.
National Planting Day celebrates the value and power of native species in restoring ecological balance to the environment, while creating greener, more beautiful communities. Keep America Beautiful, its affiliates and its partners are mobilizing Americans to plant native species of trees, flowers, and plants.
We encourage Texans to do your part! Plant native species at home and join a volunteer effort to beautify your community. Allen’s National Planting Day will take place on Saturday, September 29 from 8:30 to 12:00 at 200 St. Mary’s Drive at the historic Lynge House in the Heritage Village. Native plants, family favorites and the national planting of Oak Leaf Hydrangea will be done on this day, along with mulching the flower beds to retain moisture. You are invited to pull on your gardening gloves, pick up a spade and help “around the house” at the Heritage Village. Tell friends, family and community members about the importance of native species, and get them involved too!

I'm bringing this back to the top because it is just a few days away. Bring your garden gloves and a shovel or trowel to help plant the landscape. We appreciate it! (Be sure to mark any garden tools you bring from home with your name.)

Bring your rain panchos just in case of rain this Saturday morning. We will be working - rain or shine!

If there is thunder and lightening, we'll postpone the planting day to Sunday afternoon (Sept. 30) at 2 pm. If it is just sprinkling, we'll be there with our rain ponchos getting muddy.
