This is our dog, Toby. We adopted him in May. They said he is a lab/border collie mix and most of his body and behavior looks that way, but we also think he has a little bit of pit bull since he has the rounded areas around his eyes. The rest of his body is lean and he has a narrow chest. He also likes to "herd" our other dog and is very alert. His personality is also goofy like a lab. I thought this picture was so cute. He "stole" our small dog's bed since our other dog was on the big dog bed. He wanted someplace soft to lay. At least he got all four feet on the bed!

Great picture! It's so funny to see the positions they can get into. Looks like he loves his family.

Thanks. He really is a very sweet dog and surprisingly smart! I taught him to sit and wait until we set his food bowl down on the floor before he tries to devour the food. I ask him, "What are you supposed to do?" and he sits right down and waits for his food. He isn't quite two years old yet, but is very well behaved. He isn't thrilled about going for a ride even if it is just to pick up my son after school. The dog drools really bad. Anyone else have that experience with their dog? We have to put a towel down on the floor to catch all the slobber. He doesn't do it at home at all - just going for a ride. I strongly suspect it is a nervous reaction and am trying to get him over it by taking him with me on short trips just to the school to pick up my son, but it hasn't gotten any better.

The drooling in the car is definitely stress - my dog does that, too. You might try taking him on short car rides with someone available to try to give him treats while he's in the car. Although my dog typically won't take a treat in the car - guess she's too stressed out.

What a sweet pup! I haven't experienced the drooling since I have a dachshund and riding in the car is his favorite thing in the world to do. The only thing I can think of is maybe taking him somewhere he really likes to go, like the park or for a walk around Petsmart? Maybe if he's excited about going somewhere he'll forget about his nervousness? Have fun with Toby! He's a very lucky little guy to have found such a good family!

The only history we have on him is what they told us at the shelter which much of it was very detailed. But, we do know he was found running loose and very skinny. It could have been one of those cases where a particular car ride left him dumped alongside the road someplace. That may be what he is thinking when he goes for a ride - that he might get left again. I do plan on continuing the short rides to the school and might try treats when we get there, but I will have to bring a treat for our other dog who also likes to ride and makes a bee line for the van whenever I tell someone I'm going to go get my son from school. It is the two words - "go get" that gets both dogs running for the van to go for that ride, but Toby is the only one who drools! LOL!
