I can’t say I ever saw (or even knew of) the original, but if it is remotely as good as this remake, I’m going to have to watch it very soon. It’s actually a semi-believable storyline. I could see an enemy country (N. Korea in this instance) trying to take over parts of our country. However, I don’t see them being as successful in real life as they were in this movie, but oh well. The movie would be pretty short if we wiped them out in the first day like would happen real life. USA USA USA! From the first scene of the invasion, you knew that the movie was going to be good. It was done really well and made you think about what you would do if this actually happened. It also gave me the same angered emotions towards the enemy that Pearl Harbor gave me while watching civilian Americans being attacked on their home turf, so I guess they did that part well enough. The action scenes were great and almost non-stop. No real stand out acting, but that doesn’t really matter in a movie like this. You’re just watching to root on the good guys. It really wasn't too graphic, considering it was a war movie. They kept the scenes and language controlled enough to keep the PG-13 rating and even had some good comedic scenes. In the end, it left me wanting more. Hopefully they give me more in the future

The original from 1984 was good. I'll probably wait to get the remake on Netflix though. Off Topic but I actually saw them filming the original in New Mexico while driving on a ski trip. Going down this long hill and saw police waiting to block the road and then saw all these military helicopters on the ground and guys in white suits. Had no clue what was going on at the time but months later in the theater I saw that scene and recall a hand over the mouth moment when I blurted out that I saw that.
The original has been airing on some channels, I saw some of it last weekend so you'll have to catch it or rent it to compare to the re-make. I just wish Hollywood could get some QUALITY originality back instead of re-making things that were already done.

WOLVERINES!!!!!
I like the original, and for an 80s movie, it was pretty good. I'm a bit miffed about this new one. It was filmed as China being the attackers. That was changed post-production to N. Korea. Really? Since when did N. Korea become a world power with the capability to launch an assault on the US?
It's a bit far fetched. I'll wait for the Netflix release.

Like I said, I can't compare since I never seen the original, but every reviews I've read from people who have seen both say the new one is better. It comes out on the 21st, I suggest you go see it if you liked the original.

I'm glad to hear it is good. I loved the original with, I believe, Cuba and Russia attacking the US. I will hopefully get out to see the new one in theaters soon.
If you liked Red Dawn I highly recommend the 2010 movie "Tomorrow, When the War Began". It is essentially the same story line but in Australia. I watched it on Netflix as a Watch Now movie and it is still available. Really good and the end is left open for a sequel.

The original "Red Dawn" was during the Reagan-Gorbachev showdown, which heated up with the 1983 speech where Reagan called the USSR the "Evil Empire," he would have to back track on that message 3 years later.
It was a scary time. I worked in Defense Electronics and even though the 1984 Red Dawn was a low budget movie, we all cheered at American know-how and high school kids with AK-47's.
I saw part of the old version some time last year... it doesn't have the same feel as it did when we were under nuclear threat... it seemed a bit cheesy to me. I'll probably wait for the DVD version on the new one although in the trailer the CGI on it looks like it will be a good movie... and I too will have to say opened minded to think the North Koreans could attack America with troops.
