A very emotional film. Many Oscars will come from this Spielberg movie. Daniel Day-Lewis is excellent and should get the best actor and Tommy Lee Jones should get a best supporting actor. Sally Fields is excellent protraying Mrs. Lincoln.

I agree. It was excellent.

I particularly enjoyed the story line and how it focuses on this one important - or maybe I should say *critical* - point in his presidency where the 13th amendment would be brought forth, debated and politicized, and finally passed. An absolutely extraordinary story as rendered in this interpretation of those events. I wasn't there, of course, but to the degree that this is depicted accurately, really, truly a remarkable sequence of events in our country's history.

I highly recommend this, very enjoyable.

This movie was based in part on the book "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln" by Doris Kearns Goodwin, a historian who specialized on presidents, she is often seen on Political talk shows.

The movie shows the loud fighting in congress even in the 19th century. Which looks a lot like todays congress.

Daniel Day-Lewis is a great actor and his portrayal of Lincoln is remarkable. Sally Fields played, the almost crazy, Mrs. Lincoln perfectly as well.

I remarked at the end of the movie, that the life of Mr. Lincoln was so hard that General Grant said he looked as if he had aged 10 years during the civil war. His burden was one that I don't know many people in the 21st century could carry, losing his child in office, running a war, ending slavery and still reunite the nation. It was almost a mercy killing to shoot that poor man in the back of the head.

I almost wish they would have made this a 3 part series.

Great Movie.
No matter how big and tough you think you are, when a toddler hands you their ringing toy phone... you answer it.
