This was one of those feel good movies. It shows the ups and downs and all the craziness of mother/son relationships and I think that almost everyone can relate to at least one scene in this movie with their mothers. Me, definitely more than one. The storyline was basically the same as most road trip movies (Road Trip, National Lampoons, Planes Trains & Automobiles, etc) with the roadside attractions, car problems and sleazy motels. But I happen to love those movies so I wasn’t complaining. But then you throw in the drama of a grown man trying his best to tolerate his over the top mother, and you have a great movie. The chemistry between Streisand and Rogen was perfect. They made it very believable that they were actually family. Barbra Streisand’s character was pretty similar to her character in Meet The Folkers, which in my opinion was well done. She was crazy and controlling, but still loving and caring. Seth Rogen’s character was also similar to the character he plays in every movie, just not as vulgar or raunchy as the others. Clean or dirty, I still enjoy Rogen’s characters and I think he owned up to this more “family-friendly” type movie. It is still PG-13, so it had its scenes and language, just not as bad as Knocked Up or Superbad.
I can’t say this is a “must see” or anything, but if you’re looking for a good comedy with a good storyline, you won’t be disappointed. This movie comes out December 19th
