If we don't get enough rain soon, we could be going to stage 3 water restrictions. It also says that because we were in stage 2 since late last spring, we used 17% over our conservation goal.

That pipeline from Lake Texoma to the water treatment facility in Wylie is being constructed and the completion target is unchanged last I heard. Doesn't necessarily bump up our water supply but adds potential. If Texoma is too low and there is not water to pump, well . . .
There are more distant plans to build additional water resevoirs that would service this water district. Those have been and maybe still are wrapped up in litigation.

No matter what, we should continue to conserve our water because we cannot see into the future whether or not we will again be in a severe drought.

In the Metro section of the 4/17 Dallas Morning News (pg 3B) it says for Allen: "City Implements Stage 3 water restrictions" and the text indicates this is in effect until Oct.
I guess they goobered up that report. Makes me wonder if they ever get any stories correct.

The Dallas News did say we were going to stage 3 but I think the next day they corrected it to stage 2.

I checked with our water conservation manager with the City of Allen and she said that yes, they did a retraction the next day. But, plan on seeing stage 3 water restrictions starting on June 1.

How can they bring water from Lake Texoma when it has the zebra mussels? Also, I saw Lake Texoma the past several years and it has been low, very low during the drought. I would think the people up north would be upset if we're stealing their water.
I saw where Dallas has at least made twice-weekly water restrictions permanent with exceptions such as new sod.

The water district has long pumped water from Texoma to this area and agreements have long been in place. The presence of Zebra mussels stopped the flow of water because there are federal laws regarding moving infested water across state lines - the lake straddles the state line but the pumps and water intakes are in Oklahoma.
A pipeline is being built that will direct the Texoma water into a treatment plant instead of directly into Lake Lavon. You hit the nail on the head with your comment about Texoma lake levels. If the lake level gets too low the water intakes could be above the water and no water would flow.

Texoma is only about 2.5 feel low, compared to the close to 8 at Lavon. They've had more rain upstream in Oklahoma, than we have had, though.
You think people upstream would be upset if we stole their water? You mean like we are when Dallas steals it?

It would be nice if we could get the water from Oklahoma, specifically, Lake Texoma, but federal laws prohibit transporting water across state lines that is infested with an invasive species - specifically in this case zebra mussels. (I realize this has been discussed before, but needs to be brought up again.) They are working on a pipeline that will go directly to the water treatment plant in Wylie where they will treat it so it doesn't have zebra mussels, then it can go into Lake Lavon to add to our drinking water. But, that won't happen for another year or two. In the meantime, we have to conserve.

A bill was signed into law last December that allows water from Texoma to be used in DFW again.

My point about the rainfall in Oklahoma was that many of their creeks/rivers flow into Texas at some point, and flow into sources of drinking water for Texans. I'm fully aware of the state line issue. However, if it rains in an Oklahoma creek that leads across the line and ends up in a Texas lake, its then Texas water. So Oklahoma rain isn't such a bad thing for us either.

The Red River pretty much cuts off any Oklahoma creeks from running water into Texas. If it drains into that river, it goes downstream to La. and not across it to Texas.
