This wasn’t the most original movie ever created as I found it to be a mix of The Matrix, Independence Day, Tron, Star Wars, Predator and even Wall-E. However, it was still entertaining with a good mix of action, mystery, sci-fi, suspense and even a little romance. The art design and cinematography were unbelievable and I feel that it over-shadowed the level of the story and acting. With really only 4 relevant characters, the dialogue seemed slow and lacking not to mention how they grossly underutilized having the iconic Morgan Freeman in the supporting role. It probably took him a whole day to memorize his lines. The two other female characters (Olga Kurylenko & Andrea Riseborough) were forgettable and really didn’t add much. Andrea probably had more of an impact as you could feel a connection between her and Cruise. To where Olga seemed to just be put there as eye candy. Towards the end, I found myself to be somewhat confused on what was going on and I still don’t really understand how it ended the way it did.
Most likely, this will be one of those “you have to see twice” movies to really understand everything, and I liked it enough to where I will see it again when it comes to Blu-ray. I would recommend everyone to see this in the theater and would say that it is one of those movies that IMAX or XD is the way to see it. With the emphasis put on art design, sound effects and music scores, it would be a shame to not watch it on a 70’+ screen with 12,000 watts of sound pulsing through your body.
