The North Texas Municipal Water District voted yesterday to go to Stage 3 Water Restrictions starting June 1. This means they will allow us to run sprinklers only once a week. Check your sprinkler heads and fix leaks, update to more efficent heads/rotors, install a rain/freeze sensor, etc. to help conserve water. Here is information about the City of Allen rebate program for updating to a SMART irrigation technology, installing a rain/freeze sensor, etc.

I received these details from the City of Allen Water Conservation Manager, Gail Donaldson. Please contact Gail if you have any questions about the water restrictions.
As you may have heard, North Texas Municipal Water District (our water supplier www.ntmwd.com ) voted last night to return to Stage 3 water restrictions effective June 1, 2013. You are receiving this email as a courtesy for planning purposes for your business. HOA management Companies with HOA pools and spray grounds; Pool construction and Repair Services; Lawn, Landscape and Irrigation Companies; and others may be affected by these water restrictions. All items concerning Stage 3 water restrictions may be found in our Drought Contingency plan and ordinance on our website at: http://www.cityofallen.org/DocumentCenter/Home/V ie...
Here is a short bullet list for planning purposes. Please refer to plan for entire details, or contact me for specific information.
· Limit landscape watering with sprinklers or irrigation systems to no more than once weekly between April 1 and October 31, and twice monthly between November 1 and March 31 of each year.(refer to map for day by neighborhood) Exception: Foundations, shrubs, and trees may be watered up to two hours any day (only if needed) by hand-held hose, a soaker hose, or a dedicated zone using drip irrigation. Turfgrass lawns ARE NOT included in this exception.
· No outdoor watering with sprinklers between the hours of 10am and 6pm (April 1-October 31).
· Prohibit the operation of spray ground recreation water parks that do not treat and recirculate water.
· Prohibit hydroseeding, hydromulching, and sprigging of any grass species. Prohibit planting/watering of any cool season grass species (such as ryegrass)
· Existing swimming pools may not be drained and refilled (except to replace normal water loss). In case of extreme equipment failure, or severe cracks/leaks to the pools, a variance to drain, repair and refill may be granted on a case by case basis-pool companies may contact Gail Donaldson for more information.
· Prohibit hosing of paved areas, buildings or windows. Use of low water, high pressure washers are allowed on limited use for health, sanitation, and safety for food establishments, new building construction or repairs.
· Prohibit operation of all ornamental fountains or other amenity impoundments that use treated potable water.
· Prohibit washing or rinsing of vehicles by hose, unless using a shut off nozzle.
· Prohibit using water in such a manner as to allow runoff or other waste.
As stated above, this is NOT a complete list of Stage 3 water restrictions. The entire plan can be read at the web address listed above. A mail notice will go to every water customer both residential and commercial in Allen in late May. Restrictions for Stage 3 will be announced on our hotline number at 214-509-3111 and our website www.cityofallen.org on May 31.
Please share this information with colleagues who may work in the City of Allen that these restrictions may affect. If you have questions, or need more information, please contact me.

If we're going into Stage 3 already, that means we could go to stage 4 later if we don't receive much rain for the rest of the spring and summer. Ouch!
Too bad we can't get some of the water from all the flooded areas in the midwest.
Maybe we should stop any further growth so more people don't use more water.

I believe that the North Texas Municipal Water District are doing their best to conserve water during current restrictions. It has been found that customers achieved more than the 10% reduction goal for Stage 3 drought restrictions for the month of June.
