Anyone know what they are doing with the land at corner of Chaparral and Jupiter? Have taken out the buildings and I am guessing will clear all the trees out. Will miss seeing the horses there.

I did a search and found this from the City of Plano - it was on one of their planning & zoning meeting agendas:
Public Hearing: Zoning Case 2012-57 -Request for a Specific Use Permit for Patio Homes on 15.4± acres located at the southeast corner of Jupiter Road and Chaparral Road. Zoned Retail. Applicant: Great North Investments, LLC
7B EH
Concept Plan: Timber Brook North, Phase 2 -B4 Patio Home lots and two open space lots on 15.4± acres located at the southeast corner of Jupiter Road and Chaparral Road. Zoned Retail. Neighborhood #24. Applicant: Great North Investments, LLC

Thanks Denise. I figured it would probably be homes of some sort and since there are that type of homes being built at Parker rd and Jupiter, it makes sense. Always hate to see the large areas being eaten up by building but more people means more homes needed...

That property has been on the market for at least 20 years. I went to an estate sale in the house there many years ago. I too hate to see the horses go. Homes are fine with me since the land was zoned retail (IIRC) and it could have turned out to be a gas station and a strip center.
As it's an addition to Timberbrook, I assume the homes will be nicely done.

The horses weren't always kept in the best condition so maybe it's better for them to be moved anyhow. I much prefer houses than another half empty strip center too.

I hope they are able to save a lot of those trees too. They are very pretty and provide a lot of much needed shade in our Texas summers. Hopefully they can design the neighborhood within the trees with minimal damage. (But we know what will more than likely happen . . .)

Speaking of this area, does anyone know when they will start developing the Plano athletic fields on Chaparral, east of Jupiter?

hopefully never, cows are much nicer than lighted ball fields.
(I may sound like a broken records, but those signs have been there for over 20 years)

The sign indicating the lighted athletic fields are coming has been up for at least a decade. My best guess is they will start building the fields about the same time I decide to sell my house -

(nothing wrong with a few llamas to make your day.)
The property has now been cleared of most of the trees. Oh, well. I hope the homes that will be built there soon are nice.

It is too bad they couldn't have saved some of those beautiful trees. They would have increased the property value for the lots/homes they sell.

Yes, I was hoping they would leave some trees also. Probably several animals and birds have lost their homes as well. They have been shreding the trees in the last couple of days so it is very noisy when outside...Oh well, can't fight progress I guess...

The City of Plano stated it's 5 to 7 years from development and will probably feature soccer fields with lights used two nights per week.

Remember when it was a caliche road from Spring Creek into Allen? With ALL those lovely towering pecan and other trees? I'd get off Central and drive home that way. You could even roll our windows down, if no one was ahead of you, and shut off the car's AC in the middle of summer.

Remember the one lane bridge? Where you had to wait your turn to cross.
I also remember driving home late one foggy Halloween night and it was a little spooky going through there.

I remember the one lane bridge - when we were thinkin about moving to allen in mid 90 - we drove up here in jupiter. I had never seen one before and was just going to drive thru it but hubby said stop = don't you see the red light.

for those not familiar with it, the bridge was a single lane wide iron truss bridge. located on Jupiter Rd south of Chaparral (in Plano) It had a traffic light at each end that let cars pass one direction at a time. It's been gone for while.
There was a lot less traffic and a lot more patience.
