This is a new one for me. I don't live too far from Bethany Lakes. I'm across the street from a creek that drains into the lakes.
I have a duck in my fenced in back yard that has layed her eggs. I don't know how long the duck has been there, but I'm sure they will be hatching soon.
What do I do? The ducklings will be trapped in my backyard. Do I open my gate and encourage the momma duck to take her ducklings to the creek?

Yep, open the gate when the litle ones hatch.
We normally get quite a few ducks with their little ones walking through our neighborhood trying to get to celebration park.

It's neat to watch local ducks that are very accustomed to human critters. They are very common around my firehouse as well. One of the citizens, transplanted from another country, came by to ask about ducks he saw on the sidewalk. He asked "is that OK for the ducks to be there" and I said yes they can go anywhere they want to go.

WE have three that have joined our street this spring. At first when I saw them sitting in a neighbor's yard, I thought they were lawn ornaments as we have never had ducks on our street before. So cool to see!

We get a few in the pool each year, especially after bad weather. We just let them relax and enjoy the privacy!

we live near bethany Lakes as well and had a couple of Ducks visiting over the weekend. I wonder if they're adopted relatives of the cotton tails that seem to love hanging out in our yard

I have been seeing ducks in a yard just off Timberbend. Someone must have a pool as I do not think that there is a body of water close by.

My daughters named those ducks Daisy and Donald. They hang out on the corner of Rivercrest at Timberbend quite often.
Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it.

Interesting. There are several fighting the city ordinance against having hens in their backyard. Seems to me like your running afowl of the ordinance by allowing them to stay in your backyard.
I have 15 chicks running loose in my backyard.

Do these ducks taste good? I have a few that land in my pool from time to time. Wonder what they would taste like if smoked with aged post oak! :)
I just watched a video on how to field dress a duck. Looks easy.

I think the ducks like the private yards for birthing since most are not along either a busier road than some ponds and there are less critters that want to eat them. And some just like having their own space... like us!

There's a difference between wild and owned (can't say any birds are tamed). I sure wouldn't want to hear a rooster every morning.

Well....the ducklings are here. 7 of the 9 eggs have hatched so far. It's so fun to watch those little ducklings following their momma. She is so protective. Hissing when you are a few feet away...I can understand her instinctive protective mode.
I'll wait till tomorrow or until the other eggs hatch to help guide momma and her ducklings to the creek.

'ConserveNature' as long as it's not in my concrete utopia right. Do you even know the difference between a rooster and a hen? You know hens can't crow right? You know food doesn't grow on grocery store shelves?

Chickens are considered livestock hence the ordinance in most cities, ducks are just ducks. So no foul there. (I'll duck as the comments come in )
