I would rate this towards the top of superhero movies I have ever seen, right up there with Iron Man and Dark Knight. I think they did great with that tough task of making us relate to the human side of Clark Kent as well as the alien side of Superman. You could also really feel the tough situations when the child Clark just wanted to be a normal kid, and in order to appease his human father, not expose his powers, but at the same time wanting to use his powers for the good of human kind. I have to admit that the real action didn’t start until about an hour and a half-ish into the 2-1/2 hour movie, but the story leading up to it showing the dying planet of Krypton, growing up in Kansas and Clark growing up into a young man kept you entertained and I feel was absolutely necessary to keep your interest. But once the action kicked in, it was fight scene after fight scene. And they were just the fight scenes you’d expect from Superman and his enemies. Being thrown through buildings, pounded into pavement, sound barrier breaking flights, mid-air battles bouncing between city level to space in one leap and of course the lasers from the eyes.

There was a lot more space scenes than I expected, almost the first 20 minutes took place on Krypton, but again that was just the buildup and getting you to see what it was like at Superman’s native land and to relate to his people and family. So with all the spaces scenes and spacecraft throughout the whole movie, they had to dedicate a lot of effort into design and graphics. I don’t think anything was too over the top or over-designed that space/alien movies can sometimes do. They kept it pretty subtle and showed you that besides the advanced technology, living on Krypton wasn’t that much different than living on earth.

The casting I think was dead on for all characters. Henry Cavill (Superman/Clark Kent) fit perfectly being physically fit while still looking and acting gentle and sensitive. Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent) and Russell Crowe (Jor-El) both nailed it by giving the impression of being the wise father figures for both the human and alien side. Michael Shannon (General Zod) played a great bad guy and I think will be looked at as one of the most iconic villains in recent movie history. Amy Adams (Lois Lane) is the only one that I was a little iffy about, but I guess she did okay at playing the dedicated and determined reporter.

I think this is a must see for all guys, but would recommend seeing this movie at the theater to everyone. Everyone from a group of guys re-living their favorite childhood superhero, a couple wanting to see a good action movie, and especially a father/son duo just wanting to see some good old fashioned bad guy butt kicking. We saw it in 3D but it didn’t really stand out to me that much, so could have probably done without. Sometimes less in more in the 3D world though.

Man Of Steel comes out this Friday 06/14/13

    In response to AA

I accompanied my husband and son to Man of Steel last night and, although they both thought it entertaining, I found it cheesy, too heavy on the computer animation, and not my cup of tea. Of course I tried to tell my husband that I really wasn't interested in watching the movie but he wanted someone to hold his hand. So I obliged.
Definitely a guy movie!
