is there anyway or what would be the best way to get around a judgement that is on your credit report that would prevent you from moving into a home?

One trick of the trade on 'bad credit' is to protest and hope they don't answer within 30 days. The credit repair industry advocates this method and it works. I don't support it because if it's 'yours, you should own it'. But I hear this method works.
A judgment? That's a tough one because it's worse than bad credit. It 'sticks' because someone went through the trouble of 'filing' it with the courts. If it's a rental you're trying to get into then 'own it' and 'confess' it upfront and explain it. Most of the time we allow it because honesty is the best policy.
If you're trying to purchase a house there's just no way around it. I would suggest you try to work a 'deal' with the filer, maybe pay 10% of it to clear it? It's a starting point.
