I have a 3 year old dachshund that I need to find a good home for.

She is spayed and up to date on all shots. I adopted her from an animal shelter when she was 8 weeks old. She is sweet, good natured, and not aggressive at all. She gets along well with other dogs, cats, ferrets, and children. She is overweight. She eats her food as well as our other pets food. We are moving to the country and I'm afraid she may not survive there. Please let me know if you have a good, loving home for her.

Please contact the DFW dachshund rescue if you are unable to find a home for her.

I wish I could take her in as I really want a small dog but my blue heeler won't put up with other dogs and wants us all to herself /sigh. She has no problem with cats...well she's afraid of them so all cats welcome hehe

Nugget is no match for a coyote or bobcat, but I'm not sure there's any more reason to leave her outside unattended in your new county home than there is in the suburbs. Are you sure she can't go with you?

I don't understand why country living would be so hard, seems like it would be more idle. But that is just me, unless you plan on things being different with her living situations, such as not being an inside dog anymore? Don't get why you would need to get rid of your furry child, but I am not in your shoes.

I hope you can find a home, go to vet clinics and put adds up and hopefully you will be able to find the right home for Nuggett.

Although I do appreciate you reading my post, I am looking for her a good home. Not a decision I rushed into. I care enough to find her a good home, not going to take her to a shelter. So please reply only if you are interested in wanting to give her a good home, not to criticize my decision.

Thank you

Please accept my apologies. I was not intending to criticize you or your decision. I know that a decision like this is painful for any pet owner, and simply wondered if there were some unfounded fears driving your decision making. I hope you can find a wonderful home for her.

Stark, I'm sad that you have to give her away but do respect you for trying to find her a good home rather than dropping her at the shelter. Dachshunds are such sweet dogs (I have one myself) and I would take her in a heartbeat but we just adopted a lab this past June and I'm afraid my husband would throw all of us out of the house if I brought home another. By any chance, do you live in LCR? I saw a sweet little dachshund walking the other morning and I thought for a second that maybe it was your dog.

I recommend earlier contacting the dachshund rescue. We got our lab from the DFW lab rescue and I know these organizations will take "turn ins" and have them fostered until they can find a new forever home. That is something you could always look into as well. Good luck to you and to little Nugget!

I am sorry I was not trying to criticize - this has to be a hard choice to make - I was just curious to what made this final choice. Trust me I have often fought with myself to find a better home for my little one, it is hard choice – in the end it was my choice to keep her, still not sure if it was for me or for her – it you ask me I would say “her” because I don’t know if I could find a home that would spoil her to the way she is accustom to.
I also gave a recommendation of asking Veterinarian offices sometimes they have contacts or you can post things in their office.
I honestly wish you the best of luck.
