Almost Autin. It's in Round Rock. Kind of like Richardson is to Dallas.

# 2 in the nation. Not sure how Desoto even fits into the top 10. Once again we don't have to play the powerhouse Katy although this year and last I would have liked our chances.

They're saying official word will come at 7:00am tomorrow, but I think that's cutting it way too close. Band's call is set for 6:30am!
fyi, Trinity/Desoto is already postponed from Eagle Stadium tomorrow, new date and place still TBD, and other games are already being moved around as well.
My opinion as a nervous mom: I know it will be a huge hassle to postpone the game, but I really hate the idea of a bus caravan on the icy highways headed south. I don't know where the roads are clear (Waxahachie? Waco?) but getting out of DFW sounds very scary right now and sounds like it could actually worsen overnight as the roads freeze. Besides, traffic will be moving very slowly and I just don't know how anyone makes it to Round Rock by 2:00pm.
I know I sound very negative. I love our Eagles, I hate the idea of having to move the game, but sometimes Mother Nature gets in the way. I want everyone to be safe.

They are getting hammered on the FB website (although I guess that's a strong word per an earlier conversation). Yes, I agree, there needs to be a decision now. 7:00 a.m. is the call time for the Escadrille.
Since it's a UIL game and it involves another school maybe there is a lot more involved than Allen making an executive decision.
I'm not going to risk the drive just as I decided the same last night before they made the official announcement on school. Luckily I don't have a child in band or I'd be a little more anxious.
I suspect they'll make the decision to move forward with the game. A lot of roads by then will have been traveled and cleared and there is no more precipitation in the forecast.

Escadrille call time is now 7:45. Loading buses at 8:00. I really wish they would make a decision sooner than tomorrow morning. I'm not sure who makes that decision. The weather down towards Austin isn't that great, either.

Since a reschedule has to be a mutual decision by both schools, I'm betting that Westfield is holding out. They won't have any problem getting to Round Rock tomorrow.

Football playoffs: Allen will still try to play Saturday; DeSoto-Euless Trinity, Highland Park-Wylie, Argyle-Gladewater, Cedar Hill-Denton Ryan, Denton Guyer-Birdville all moved to Monday
Allen coach Tom Westerberg said that the defending Class 5A Division I state champion is still planning to play its regional final against Spring Westfield at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex in Austin as scheduled.
Westerberg said that the bus company being used to transport Allen to the game thinks it can make it to the game despite the inclement weather. Westerberg said that if they find the roads are too bad early Saturday morning, they would move the game to 2 p.m. Monday at the same location.

As a band mom, the trip is optional for my girls- both were scheduled to try out for Region tomorrow. One wants to stay home, the other wants to go. They will be remaining safe at home. We are big Eagle fans, even went to the Cotton Bowl a few weeks ago... but it is, after all, just a game. It's not worth skating down I35. Everything around DFW- even parades, etc. have been cancelled for a reason. I'm not criticizing other parents if they make another decision, but this is the one I can live with.

Unreal. If I'm reading your link properly Allen is going to play Saturday at 2 PM even though all other schools are planning on Monday. Even Euless Trinity and Desoto are moving their game to Monday and driving to Waco to have the game (no venues available locally). I might not agree but at least it is a 'decision'.
I'm glad band has moved up their time to meet. I have to think (hope and pray) that the roads will be safer tomorrow because most will have been well traveled. However, I hear rain is in the forecast for Saturday night.

The Allen field is covered in ice, good for hockey, not good for football. It's my understanding, Round Rock is cold but not wet. Guess we'll find out when we find out.

My mom lives in Georgetown, just north of Round Rock. She says they are expecting around 30 degrees and freezing rain, some icing. I watched the news at 6 and there was going to be rain all the way up and down the I 35 corridor tomorrow.

All high school playoffs (not just football) are UIL controlled. This isn't an AISD issue so you'll have to find something else to hammer them on.

Do some research. This is an Allen and Spring Westfield decision. UIL's only restriction on the game is 'no games on Sunday'. Every other game has been rescheduled for Monday. Those decisions were made by the schools. Allen has no excuse to play on Saturday based on the weather reports other than to worry about having enough time to prepare for next week's game.

Everything in life including the decision to play a game is 'risk-based analysis'. I'm seeing the same reports including the current conditions of the roads now. It's time for Allen to wake up. It's not too hard to make the decision.
See Coach's statement (link above)????? He says the bus company "THINKS" they can get us out of the area to the game safely.

AISD's FB page announced the decision this AM and it was followed with over 70 comments. Soon after they made a posting stating they removed the comments because they were "inappropriate". They also removed nearly 100 from last evening. Many parents were complaining about the decision.
I don't doubt the buses can arrive safely but part of the decision must consider the fan base and auxiliary groups attending. I made a drive to the HS area this AM and the roads were horrible.
I hear the roads are clear and fine past Hillsboro. I encourage people to stay home and not risk it. You can go online and listen to the game.

I know the travel concern is real, but whether or not the fans or band for that matter make it, they need to play this game today...they are ready and that is what matters.
Waiting until Monday would put them off their schedule so much they would be in a position of not being ready to play at their peak...and that applies to BOTH teams.
Let's hope and pray for the safe travels for all that are making the trip, and the rest of us can listen to the game on the internet. Go Eagles!

I don't think there was one great, clear decision. My best wishes for safe travel to those players, students, parents and fans making the trip down and back.
Let's be careful out there Eagle nation and help each other out.
There is a hot cup of cocoa for you all when you get back. And if you were the driver for the trip, you might want to add a little something to the mug.
Weather aside, the trip through the construction zone (TWICE!!) is enough for me to skip the trip.

It's very sad. You recognize the 'risk' and hold back the other participants to minimize the risk. I don't want to hear anyone tell me there was 'no risk'. Even the school recognizes the risk.
Every other DFW school made the right decision to postpone until Monday.

The other portion:
There has obviously been a lot of interest and commentary on the decision to proceed with the football game today. As mentioned in a comment earlier - here is some information that may help explain what and why.
There were many administrators, coaches and directors involved in making the decisions this morning. There were staff members on the road at 4:30 a.m. driving to check highways to Austin and others at the schools working to make the best decision under the difficult weather circumstances.
According to the charter company and the staff members who drove south on 75 and I-35 this morning, the highway is safe for travel.
Let's go!!!! It's safe.

It was an unnecessary risk. It also tells me where they stand with the band. It's always football, will always be about football, and nothing is even close to football. Band? Cheer? Putting 700 to 800 kids out on the field doesn't prove relevance. A decision like the one today tells me where all the other programs stand.

Seventy comments removed this morning, 100 removed last night. Was all of them inappropriate? If it was profanity that is understandable, but if they were just negative reactions that's suppression and censorship. Freedom of speech denied because of negative comments! This is not a good example for our students. It's bad enough that transparency is in question with some decisions of the school board, now this.

You can rant all you want to (as long as it remains within Facebook guidelines) on your private FB page. Allen ISD doesn't allow "freedom of speech" in their classroms so why should the general public get to say whatever they want on the AISD FB page? Quit trying to make a big deal of something that isn't! There is no way everyone was going to be happy with the decision.

Get ready for another "hot button" topic. If the Desoto game is postponed until Tuesday, they are talking about waving the "no Sunday rule" for next week to give the winner one more day to recover before playing Allen.
