They took their sweet time making that decision. They got hammered on their FB page and rightfully so. Not sure what forecast they were looking at.

I read the Facebook comments, and I don't think a few folks wanting to know something last night so they could turn off their alarm clocks before they went to bed qualifies as "hammering". Until later last night, there was still some doubt about whether school should be cancelled or just delayed. I appreciate the district taking their time instead of jumping the gun.

There were comments from parents needing to make arrangements with their kids. Other pages expressed frustration (WFAA, etc.) especially coming from teachers who wanted to know if they'd be traveling. Did you know some of these dedicated people leave their house at 6 AM to get here and be ready early?
This isn't a first but this was one the most obvious. It was laughable. Roads were beginning to freeze over and the forecast called for temps to remain freezing until Sunday and it called for 100% rain coverage from 6 to 10 AM (and 80% prior to). It's not rocket science. AISD was one of the last districts to make a decision.
There was never any doubt after 6 to 7 PM. I was watching and monitoring the same reports they had access to.

Given that Allen and Lovejoy announced almost simultaneously, and that McKinney and Plano announced within 5-10 minutes of Allen, I don't see how them announcing when they did was that big of a deal. I also didn't notice that anyone was particularly upset on the AISD Facebook page, either.

Pete Delkus of channel 8 said, "That's their decision but based on the forecast and all that's going on now I can't imagine how they'd be open."

I can't argue that 9 PM was late to make a decision but there were no doubts at 6 to 7 PM.
