As a local heating and air conditioning contractor we wanted to post this with the hope that it may help even just one or two households from calling for service unnecessarily.

At least once in the last couple of years when ambient temperatures have dropped below approx. 20F, apparently, the natural gas pressure distribution system that supplies at least some of our homes became overwhelmed and the pressure dropped due to extremely high demand levels. This resulted in a drop in furnace performance and at it's peak caused many furnaces to shutdown via their internal safety features. As temperatures began to warm up in to the twenties, the condition subsided and normal furnace operation resumed.

Many folks called their service provider only to be told that nothing can be done - it's utility related - and subsequently paid for a service call.

(Please note that Webster Mechanical will never charge a customer under this type of circumstance.)

We do not believe this to have been city wide. We can say for certain that it was happening in the eastern Fox Hollow sub-division near Bethany and Malone and some surrounding area pockets.

If, during these extreme low temperatures, your furnace seems to have unusually long run times, is not satisfying the thermostat setting as expected, or just stops heating altogether - it may be a good idea to check with neighbors to see if they are experiencing the same before calling your service provider.

Hopefully this will not be an issue - but we decided to post just in case. Tell your neighbors, stay warm, and stay safe!

Hope it's ok to bump this to the top. My hope is that as many as possible might see it from the main forum page.
