Ate lunch there today. The food was really good and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back. They have some service issues most likely associated with being new - hopefully those will work themselves out.

Had dinner there last night at around 8pm with only a 10 minute wait. Overall... muy bueno! I had the tamales with red sauce, Mexican potatoes and charro beans. Very good. Spouse had sour cream chicken enchiladas with rice and charro beans. Also very good. Plenty of flavor in both dishes.
The menu items are the usual Tex-Mex fare, so there's something for everyone. Chips and salsa were good.
Most notable were the generous portions, almost too much. Will go back soon to try other dishes.

Had been wanting to try it since they started working on it. We braved the storm on Saturday night thinking it would not be full... seems everyone else thought the same. We were told 30 minute wait and we got on the list... deciding that was better than heading out in the torrential rain and finding something else. It was pretty full in the front waiting area... plenty of tables were open but I can understand them not able to seat everyone if they just did not have the servers for it. We had a toddler with us and I was worried that she would start acting up with the wait but it was not bad at all.
They have a little store area with gadgets and decorations, along with an area to buy pan dulce (sweet bread) you could usually see down in San Antonio. The restaurant actually reminded me of Mi Tierra in San Antonio for those familiar with it. The bakery area is much smaller though, but the decorations and feel is the same.
We were seated after about 30 minutes and our waiter quickly took our order. We did not wait much for drinks or our meal. They have complimentary chips and you choose the salsa from about four options. We got the fire roasted and loved it! It had great flavor and a little kick to it. We ordered the Fajitas del Rio for two and it was plenty of food for two adults and our little one. Only mistake on our order was we requested charro beans but got re-fried instead. Our waiter checked in regularly to see if we needed anything but you could tell they were busy. However they did have plenty of people working so it seemed the servers were not getting as frazzled as they could have been.
We were seated close to the main entrance so didn't get a chance to see the whole restaurant but what we saw we liked. There is a small lobby area separating the main front door from the inside door... beautiful tile floor but I see some work being done on that in the near future. We walked in as a downpour had just started and there was water puddled in that area.
All in all we liked the experience and food so we will definitely be going back.

We also went Saturday early evening (5:00pm) and it was packed. I also thought that the inbound weather would keep people away and the fact that they didn't really advertise a grand opening anywhere should limit the traffic. Wrong. Not a big deal, it's to be expected around here on a Saturday night. The place is basically a replica of Posados. The neon lights, the tacky decorations, even the free Ice Cream Machine in the lobby. Not that that's bad, but take that as you will. We waited about 30 minutes for a table for 7+highchair which isn't horrible. Chips and salsa I thought were great, didn't know there were options though on the salsa, that would have been nice to know that. Our server was pretty slow (not that we were in a hurry) and didn't seem to be too knowledgeable of the product since he didn't even know if the taco's were flour or corn tortilla's. Still early to fault them on that I guess. Everyone enjoyed their food and the portions were very generous and price was acceptable. I had the spicy beef burrito and it came with an excellent and spicy queso on top. I was a little bummed when my Margarita came on the rocks when I ordered frozen, apparently they don't have a blender to make frozen margarita's unless it is their pre-mixed versions in the machine. Again, I was not told until he brought it to me which brings me back to the server not knowing the product, or in this case the bar capabilities. Two others had Margarita's and they both complained that it was very salty almost to where you could not drink it. We all joked that since they said no salt on the rim, they just took that salt and poured it into the drink.
In the end, we were happy with it and should be on our regular list for Tex-Mex. As long as the service issues work itself out.

My wife and I went tonight. We were a little disappointed. It really feels like a Posados knockoff. For as long as they took to renovate, I was hoping for something a little nicer. With close ptions like La Finca, Posados, Chuys and Glorias if we feel fancy, I do not think we will be back.

Not sure why everyone keeps saying they are copying Posados, Del Rios has been opened in Lufkin and Beaumont longer than Posados has even been around, so if anyone is trying to be like anyone, its Posados thats copying them, they have always had the free ice cream machine for years, and the neon lights. As far as trying a place ONE time and saying you will not go back? WOW, your gonna run out of places quickly to go out and eat at and shop at. Things this place has that Pasodos doesnt, 1. a shop to buy breads and other items at 2. a HUGE bar with a free happy hour nacho bar 3. a patio area they can open the doors on and let fresh air in 4. a stage for live bands.

I agree! Personally I do not really like Posados... went many years ago and my experience was not memorable... went back last year and haven't had the urge to go back any time soon! One thing I do clearly remember about Posados is I ordered off the kids menu for my little one... she loves black beans so we ordered those. They just gave us the regular black beans that come with other meals.... which were SPICY! We love spicy food but even I couldn't finish them.
I have never been to the other locations Cafe Del Rio has so this was truly my first experience... but from what I can tell so far it will be a regular for my family.

I wasn't trying to say which came first, just pointing out that it looked exactly like Posado's since most people have been and know the looks.
But since you brought it up... you are incorrect

Regardless of who copied who, Posados pulls it off better in my opinion. We may try again after they have time to mature.
For now, there are many many other close options to scratch the same itch.

As for who copied who, we've been doing the buffet since the 60's. Their food is cheaper than most so I suppose some elitist think its not worthy. But they have all the elements before these other mentioned came to this area. Cheaper doesn't mean bad food. All you can eat options, plus sopapillas, salad bar and ice cream with buffet.
So guess the foodies got it wrong again.

We decided last night would be a good time to try out Café Del Rios. Arrived around 6:30 and was told a table for two would be a 45 minute wait. Not going to happen.
Guess my much anticipated review will have to wait.

My wife and I decided to try this place out last night. The wait was around 30-35 minutes, but we decided to just stick with it since we were already there. We both enjoyed our meals and we will definitely be back. Service was a little bit slow, but we weren't in a big hurry and I could tell everyone was working hard. We didn't buy bread from their small bakery, but we probably will next time we visit. I can see this becoming a regular spot for us if the food stays consitent.
I've never been to Posados, but I have been to Chuy's and have never been a huge fan of it. I think this place blows Chuy's out of the water for good Tex-Mex. I know it has just been one visit, but that was my first impression.

We gave Chuy's 3 tries, hoping it would get better and it didn't. Posados was on our rotation before we got Uncle Julios, MiCocina and Papa Lopez. Special occasions are Abuelos.
We'll get back to Del Rio's soon.

I remember In n Out's drive-thru line going out to the road when it first opened. I also remember when that Furr's place first opened on 75 in Plano, I saw people lining out the door when I drove home in the evenings. Unless Del Rios is like the Cheesecake Factory or Chuy's, which I don't know what magic power they possess to keep people going, the wait will be a lot shorter in a couple of months.
I look forward to checking this place out too, but I don't have the patience yet.

We use to live in Lufkin and my parents still do, the place has been ther for 20 years now and on weekends the waits are still about 30 minutes, so I doubt the wait gets much better up here in a much bigger town. We like Chuys some, but everything seems way too spicy there, even the salsa. But we love the drinks there. But be careful when you order the 3G Margarita at Del Rios, a couple of those and you will be buzzing

We tried out Cafe Del Rios last night. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait, but actually only ended up being about 5 so that was a pleasant surprise. The food was good, it took quite awhile to come out, and when it finally did, my daughter's quesadilla had tomatoes and onions in it, which we specially asked not to have. I mentioned it to the server and she said she put it in for them not to put tomatoes and onion, but that things were a mess in the kitchen and it was crazy in there and that they would try to do better the next time we came in. Um, but no offer to redo the quesadilla, but honestly I didn't really want to wait another 30 minutes for another one so I didn't push it. My daughter kind of picked them out, but mostly filled up on chips & salsa/queso and flour tortillas. We'll go back, I think they're still working out the kinks.

I tried it out because of this discussion and because I pass by the restaurant every day and the exterior is impressive. First off, I liked the chips and salsa very much. I've been set on Frankie's or Amigos or Real Maya in Richardson for times when I want a taste of Mexican or TexMex food. Del Rios didn't top any of those just because I prefer the setting and menus in those places more. But the food in Del Rios was good as was the service. It is convenient and I'm sure we will visit again.
The big plus for me - there are a bunch of very wide parking spaces. I usually circle a lot looking for a space, even if the furthest away from the building door, that offers the best chance of coming away without a door ding.
