Tried it last night. thumbs down for me. 3G and Swirl margaritas were terrible. Food was bad. Not sure what the fuss is, would never wait for a table there. Just my opinion or maybe I am spoiled MiCo's, glorias, Uncle Julios, etc....

Me and my wife tried it and felt the same, average at best.

We decided last night would be a good time to try out Café Del Rios. Arrived around 6:30 and was told a table for two would be a 45 minute wait. Not going to happen.
Guess my much anticipated review will have to wait.

Tried it again last night...6:30...35 minute wait.
Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm.

Well, unfortunately I'm joining the ranks of 'meh' crowd. The atmosphere was fine and the service was fine but the food didn't do anything for me. Even my husband opted not to take home the rest of his chimichanga which is unusual Just really bland across the board. Tried all four salsas and really didn't like any of them. May try it again in a few months but I dont see this being a go to place for us.

So we finally tried this place Saturday mid afternoon between sporting activities, so they were not packed and our server was very attentive.

I agree with those who like the chips and salsa. We also ordered a cup of the tortilla soup to sample. It was good (not as good as La Finca Chiquita though). Among the four of us, we ordered enough different dishes that we got to sample various entrees. While all main entrees were good, the only disappointment for us was the rice, it left a lot to be desired.

While I'm not in the "wow, this place is great" crowd, I've also had a lot worse. I can see myself going back from time to time.

We've been back once more and I have to agree that the rice is disappointing. Our other food was ok, but not as good as the first trip. For better or worse, though, my oldest son thinks the place is great. At least I have the chips and salsa and tortillas to make up for the rice.

Another against the rice so it seems to be something more than a peculiar taste of mine. It wasn't a problem with the flavor. I just found it to be too hard as if it wasn't cooked long enough.

Went by there last week. 20 minute wait at 4:55 PM. Wife had chicken fajitas which were good. The tamale I had was horrible. Neither of us liked the charro beans as they had this heavy bacon grease taste. Rice was bland. had no flavor. Chips and salsa were good. Will probably go back a second time but it better improve or we wont be back. Service was excellent. Food just average at best.

We went yesterday and loved the chips and salsa and queso. There were six of us and everyone got something different. The food was great and our service was excellent.

Made our second trip there yesterday. On our original trip there, we didn't care for the rice because it seemed to be under cooked. This time around the rice was much better. We were part of a large group and everyone really enjoyed what they ordered.

Went there a week ago with 3 friends for lunch and did not have any wait at 11:30. Decor was a mix of Posadas and a 50's diner. A bit strange hearing music from The Cars and The Eagles, but that is my kind of music so no harm.

Chips and salsa were just ok, not as good as La Finca.

All of the dishes came out quickly and only one of them was wrong, so they are batting .750.

My friend ordered a Fajita beef Nacho with Pico de Guyo sauce on top and they brought out a ground beef nacho with carne sauce on top.

Within about 5 minutes they got a new enchilada to him but it still had Carne instead of Pico de Guyo. He wrote it off and ate it.

My rice was well done with just a bit of taste and complimented my Beef and Chicken enchiladas. The enchiladas I had were a great taste and no onions just as I ordered. The charro beans were great for me.

I will likely go back again.

My wife and I went on this last Saturday afternoon. Got right in, staff was very friendly. We too, agree that there are many more Tex-Mex restaurants around with a lot better food. We'll stick with our favorites, Abuelos and Cristinas.
But we did like the idea that on Friday and Saturday night they have a live western band during happy hours.

We went last Thursday, no wait. The hostesses were a bit immature, and my teenage daughter tells me that two of the three have a drug problem. Hmmm...Maybe the manager was desperate. They did seem a little goofy. Our waiter, however, was terrific, maybe just a tad too attentive, or bored. The place was not very full. The charro beans are not really charro beans, they're just pinto beans. No real "spice" to them. Same with the rice. Daughter's quesadilla was great. I ordered chicken enchiladas with the acapulco sauce. The enchiladas were great, but I should have ordered with cream sauce. The acapulco sauce was an avocado derived sauce that was very bland. It just needed something. I felt like it was food that could have been served to a senior center. Not much bite. The chips and salsas were terrific, brought out four different salsas. Very good! Portions were very large. Went back to the bathroom, and there were five workers standing back there talking, and blocking the hallway to the restrooms. Even walking right up to them, they did not stop their casual conversation to move and let me by. I actually had to ask them to "excuse me" so I could get to the restroom. All in all, management needs to get control over the staff, and maybe step up the spices a little.

We finally had a chance to try out Cafe Del Rios arrived at 11:45am on Saturday and expected a long wait, but found a parking spot right in front, and were seated without delay.

I agree with the prior assessments on the rice, it tastes like they mixed in Velveeta cheese with it or something, as it has an almost plastic like odor/taste to it, which I didn't care for at all.
They messed up one order, but were quick to get a replacement out.

Our waitress seemed "off" as well.
A fork dropped off the table onto the floor when she was at the table, and she picked it up and asked us if we wanted a new one. As if to suggest that we would be willing to continue to use the one that landed on the floor!

Then when she brought our food out, one of the plates was hot and she dropped the s-word as she apparently burned her hand a bit.
Thankfully my elementary age kids didn't seem to hear/notice.
She also wasn't all that attentive, and we had to ask for everything from refills to having our check delivered.
She was however friendly, and the manager who was walking the place seemed friendly enough too.

All in all I would give it a 6.5 out of 10, good enough to give them one more try in a month or two, once they've had a chance to work the kinks out and have the initial turn-over in bad staff, that all new restaurants seem to go through.

For now we'll stick with our usual places such as El Grande Burrito and La Finca Chiquita

We went last night for the 3rd and last time. We weren't going to go back after the 2nd time, but had a visitor who wanted to go.

When we arrived, there was about a 10 minute wait and they took our name. Gave me one of those vibrator boxes. 20 minutes later I asked them how much longer. Come to find out, our vibrator box was defective and didn't work, even though we were standing less than 10' away and they could have called my name.
Both times before, both of our meals were cold, which is bad enough, but really bad for tex-mex.
Nothing is worse than cold Mexican food. Last night was the same, food was cold and this time we were all convinced our meals were cooked at least a day before. We each ate just a small amount and that was enough. We filled up on chips and salsa and left. Back to Papa Lopez and Abuelios.

Cold food? We have been about 8 times and have never had cold food. Why not ask for another plate if it was cold? the owners are very nice and would have done whatever was needed to make it up to you guys. We love the place and will continue to support it like we do all places in Allen. I have had a couple of bad experiences at LaFinca, but love the owners and keep going to it as well.

I will not ask for something that should have been done right in the first place. That business will, and in this case has, lost my business.
