Does anyone know what the street construction is for on Exchange heading East from Hwy 5?

Widening to 3 lanes each direction. It's an extension of the widening project west of 75. But I can't remember if it's to Allen Heights, or all the way to Angel. I'm sure someone here will know.

Looks like they're widening the road. Might also be getting ready for the next phase of 75 construction ... adding a lane between Legacy and Exchange. Hopefully that 75/Exchange interchange will be redone in the process. That quasi-clover leaf is outdated.

Exchange will be widened from Alma to Allen Heights

Information on exchange widening and 75 expansion here:

http://www.cityofallen.org/index.aspx?NID=1048

I don't know if the exchange "ramps" will be redone, but the exit going north is supposed to be pushed back to allow more space to slow down to take the east exchange jug handle.

Unfortunately the Exchange/75 ramps are now very reminiscent of the old Parker/75 mess. Let's hope they solve the issues now instead of waiting 20 years when it will be a real nightmare.

Looks like they're starting on the traffic light at Bossy Boots & Exchange.

When I moved here 7 years ago, I only had to go through 2 stop lights on my route from home (McDermott & Alma) to work (Exchange & 75). Now there will be 7. They're killing my 5 minute commute

Jealous of the 5 minute commute. When I moved here 8 years ago, my commute from just east of Exchange and Alma to downtown Dallas did not involve a stop light until I got to downtown Dallas. Now, it will be just as fast for me to take McDermott as Exchange with all the new lights.

Frustrating that they're tackling Exchange before Stacy past Greenville. The date on that has been pushed out over and over again, and now they're not slated to start until 2015!

They cannot do any work on Stacy until the NTMWD moves the water main. That is being done now. The fences lines north of Stacy have been moved back ~20 feet. Trees are being removed. TXDOT should be able to bid out the construction by December.

They must be paying these guys by the hour. Anyone know when Exchange is supposed to be finished?

According the link above, Exchange is supposed to be done by October and Watters by summer.

warning to anyone going Westbound. At the Watters crossing you now have to merge to the left and then back to the regular lanes while they work on that intersection. They do not have the new lanes marked very good so cars are almost side swiping each other not knowing who is in which lane. I see close calls every time I drive through there

It sure seems that I haven't seem anybody doing anything for the past few weeks. Only work I see being done is landscaping in the median over by Alma.

They need to pick up the pace, since they installed that ridiculous stoplight at Bossy Boots before they opened the 3rd lane, now the stopped traffic goes past the Hospital/Walmart light and causes a bottleneck during rush hour. Horrible planning there

I live off of Exchange and Bray Central. I have taken to exiting Bethany or McDermott and come over to Watters. North to the 4 way stop at the 24 hour Fitness and hang a left. Dumps you onto Exchange at a traffic light and west of most of the mess.

I was going in and out that way during rush hour even before the construction.

I can't believe I am posting this. Where is the shoot yourself in the foot icon?

Will the mods please redact the above post so nobody else knows about this back door. Then please sensor VRS for an appropriate amount of time as punishment for letting the cat out of the bag.

Apparently even Google Maps agrees that the Exchange/Watters intersection is taking far too long

Do they ever plan to extend Bossy Boots to Bray Central? Seems like would have been a logical thing to do before closing off Watters.

Great observation. But there are two distinct and separate entities at work here. The City of Allen closed Watters Road in-order to work on the intersection at Exchange. Extending Bossy Boots to Bray Central will be done by the entity developing the property north of Bossy Boots, in this case the entity is Allen ISD.

I don't recall, but I believe based on the Allen Land Development Code, AISD is only required to build two lanes of traffic from Watters Road to Bossy Boots. Building two lanes is the standard practice, take Bray Central between Exchange and Hopewell as an example.

Yes, Bossy Boots will eventually be extended to a roundabout at Bray Central just south of Hopewell. I have not seen any plans from the City, but it was in one of their weekly emails in April:

In the coming months, Bray Central Drive will undergo construction to not only widen the roadway for increased capacity but also to receive a unique upgrade to its traffic flow. Currently a two-lane road, the roadway construction will expand Bray Central Drive to four-lanes and include a dual-lane roundabout North of Exchange Parkway, at a new intersection with Bossy Boots Drive. Roundabouts offer the safest type of same level intersection and provide the least delay time compared to stop sign or traffic signal control. Construction on Bray Central Drive is anticipated to begin in early May and be completed by the end of the year. To learn more about roundabouts, visit CityOfAllen.org/Roundabouts.

The North Side of Watters is open to Exchange again. I was surprised when I drove it yesterday.
