This is the new Indian Food Place on Customer and McDermott. This place was my first attempt at Indian food and I LOVE IT. I've had three different dishes so far and all three were great. You can have them adjust the spice level however you like. If you are anxious on what to ordere do like I did and tell them what you like and they'll point you in the right direction.

I just tried it based on seeing this thread! I got chili chicken and lamb vindaloo, and holy crap, the chili chicken was INCREDIBLY hot, even more so than the vindaloo! Still, both were delicious, as was the butter naan that I got to sop the sauce up. The lamb was very tender and lean, with big chunks and lots of them
Yummy stuff, for sure!

I've never had Indian food but always wanted to try it. Is there a known "beginners" dish that I should get my feet wet with?
Also, is coconut common in Indian food? I can't say I would have ever thought that

I was a newbie too. So far I have tried the Tikka Masala, chicken 65 and Korma. All 3 were fantastic, but I would say the Korma is my favorite so far.

I would say Butter Chicken would be a good beginners dish for Indian food.

I think Tandoori chicken might be a pretty safe bet?
Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it.

I ended up getting takeout from here two nights in a row! They serve some seriously good food here. Yum! Do understand, though, that unlike some other places, these guys can bring the heat. Don't ask for it extra hot unless you really know what you're doing!

It's near my daughter's dance studio so I guess we need to try it soon. I pass it multiple times a day.

I don't know many dishes, but my favorites are tikka masala & korma. I love vindaloo too, but don't go there unless you can stand the heat. Tandoori chicken is always fabulous too, but I like stuff with sauces.
Thanks for posting about this place; it's near the house and I will definitely stop by to try it out!

I don't encourage buffets these days, but for a beginner to Indian food, I'd recommend trying out a lunch buffet first. You'll get to taste a little of everything to find out what each dish is about.
My favorite is korma and tikka masala too. Korma is a creamy sauce, and you can taste the crushed cashews in the sauce, just really yummy.

I've only eaten Indian food in the lunch buffet format (A few in Addison, Dallas, and Plano)and I agree that it's good for beginners. Is this Allen's only Indian restaurant? I can't wait to give it a try..looks really good from what I have read online.

We stopped in on Saturday for dinner and really liked it. We were only ones in there but there were at least 5 take out orders processed while we were there.
I had the lamb vindaloo and my wife had the curry chicken. Both were excellent along with the order of rice and naan that we had.
I would call this place the Pho Crystal or Chitos [sniff] of Indian food and I mean that in the most complimentary of ways. My wife and I like little hole in the wall places and Coconut express fits right in with out tastes.
Personally, the name makes me think it's a fast food chain type place but it's really just a small family restaurant. We enjoyed our food and will be going there regularly.

If you're a newby, I recommend any meat from the tandoor and you'll be hooked. Chicken Tikka and an order of garlic naan, you'll be back for more. Not seeing any lamb or goat on the tandoor menu, but I can only read the to-go menu. I really need to try this place. The only decent Indian food for some time has been a buffet on GWB past Plano.

The shrimp masala just rocked my world. I will be back again and again. When I arrived this afternoon, the entire dining area was packed with Indian contractors who were thoroughly enjoying their meals. Can't ask for a better endorsement than that. The smells hit you as you walk in the door. Two thumbs up for the kitchen crew at Coconut Express.
