What a gimmick and I'm glad I didn't sponsor the team this year.

This girl is setting herself up for a major injury. What a joke. Can we accept that girls can't do certain things? Are we PC run amuck?

"Feel good story gone wrong?" You want to write an entire gender off from the sport because of hypotheticals? If we follow your logic, no one would ever do anything risky because of some possibility of injury.

She's not capable of playing in this sport, period. And yes, she's risking serious injury. Maybe you haven't played football?

Rugby players would probably say football is a sissy sport.
She sounds like an exceptional athlete. A woman athlete, no matter how exceptional, could never have a chance in the NFL but the league she is trying out for is not at that level. It's unlikely she will make the team but good luck in the tryout. Risk of injury shouldn't be a barrier. The same risk is there for the men and they are allowed to accept that risk.

I guess you didn't see my video of 'hits' in those types of games. Football is tougher than rugby. Rugby is muscle and caveman power with little skill involved.
Why are they giving someone a chance to tryout that has 'zero' chance of making it? A marketing gimmick that I do not support.
This is rugby: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4MRz4MtS8g
This is Arena Football: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2CYWLzWNXY
What HS team did she start and play at? None. She would have a tough time on any 8th grade team in Allen. She'd get knocked silly and injured even at that level. 5'2 and 130 lbs.

There are some obvious sexism issues involved here as well. This blatant dismissal of her simply for being female is rather telling

But . . . We would let them try to compete, right? Whether they make the level of competition they seek should be entirely on their skills.

So your position is that someone should decide for you if people like you should be allowed to try to . . . You wouldn't be allowed to give it your best shot and qualify, just that someone would look at you and decide that you are too tall or short, too dark or light skinned, too . . . to even be allowed to try.
Yeah, let's be real.

I can try to jump out of an airplane with no parachute at 10000 ft.
We know what the outcome will be.
And it has nothing to do with sex, color or skin or the sun in the sky.
This is a gimmick. One that can potentially get someone seriously hurt.
I'm guessing she had to sign a stack of waivers 6ft high before she was "allowed" to be an idiot. And I'm guessing the players were told in no uncertain terms to take it easy on her.
No one wants the gimmick to explode in their face.
This isn't about freedom to choose what you want to do, this is about a trumped up gimmick to promote this until now, unheard of team.
It isn't sexism, racism, freedom to choose, or even what kind of pie you like.
It is a gimmick.

Damn, I have to agree with Mr. DeLaGarza for once.
Women can TRY to compete in these type of sports with men... But why. It is going to set them up for failure and embarrassment. Similar to the kicker video posted above. FYI, I also kicked a field goal at the NFL Experience when the Super Bowl was here, does that mean I should try out for the NFL?
NBA? Not likely. MLB? Maybe. NHL or NFL? Hell no, it is much too physical to mix a female in with men that train to take people's heads off. There was a woman in the NHL awhile back but she only played 2 exhibition games and was just the goalie to where if you have quick enough reflexes, anyone can play. It's not a matter of being sexist, it's just being realistic. I think it is irresponsible to throw them in that much danger of surely being injured. And yes, the fact that the management knows she will never make it long if at all, but are still for it shows that they are in it for the gimmick factor. T.O. anyone?

I would like to clarify the Rugby thing though me being a fan. Rugby is just as coordinated and rough as Football but without the protection. The video you posted was a women's club team. Here is the hard hitting of professional/semi-pro teams. Just as hard of hits as the arena football video you posted, without all the padding.

Again, so you all are fine with someone deciding for you that you don't have a chance in some endeavor and then you have NO OPPORTUNITY to even try?
You are a woman so you can't compete in the Boston Marathon.
You are Black so you can't play quarterback.
You are a woman and married so you can't teach in the city public schools.
You are a woman so you shouldn't try to be an engineer.
You are too short (Spud Webb) so you shouldn't try to play basketball.
I'm not talking about the odds of being successful, or not being embarrassed. I'm talking about the freedom to try and letting your individual skills determine your success rather than a general prejudice.

I don't care if she tries or not.
People are free to be as big an idiot as they please.
But let's not confuse this with freedom to try anything.
It's a gimmick.
And if Tony Romo slaps on lipstick and a bikini and "tries" to win Miss America, that's a gimmick too.
A publicity stunt. Nothing more, nothing less.
Nothing sexist about it. It's a gimmick.

CRUNCH! Not even close.
'Heart doesn't win games' and this gimmick is now a joke.
Three videos showing her getting crunched and not helping the team.

I continue to disagree. She had a background to give it a shot - far more legitimate chance than most men. The game showed that she couldn't perform at that level and will not make the team. I would never begrudge her that opportunity or call her attempt a joke. She is a serous athlete giving her best.

Actually this is where you were proved wrong. She was given a 'chance' at try-outs. There's no way she 'made the team'.
This confirms it was all a gimmick. She didn't 'make the team' and this is a big joke. Shame on the team. She was thrown around like a ragdoll in those three carries in the game.
ANY starting running back in 5A football would have performed better.

I think one of the Revolution guys need to tryout for the Dallas Diamonds now. Just want to be given a chance to play against women and prove to everyone and himself that it can be done. I'm sure they and the league would await him with open arms
