Most of the team is unhappy. Comments range from, "where were they in the triple-digit weather in pre-season" to "they didn't win this and go back-to-back".

This is crazy. Fans are great but athletes strive for these types of accolades and it's all theirs, no one else's. I'm fine with the screaming eagles, cheerleaders, and band (even though you don't see it in other ranks) but to offer the rings to the students is odd.

The athletes as a whole are not happy about this and that says it all.

A few years ago after the 2008 championship an 8th grade coach got choked up because all the MS coaches were offered a ring, something very thoughtful because they felt part of the family (helping and being apart of the accomplishment). It was a great gesture on behalf of the coach and/or AD. But now....you've just diluted the accomplishment by literally offering it to everyone.

From the article:

TexasHSFootball.com even chimed in with a tweet, saying: "It's idiotic. Those rings are earned, not given."

Yes, this is just wrong! I am a faithful fan, go to all the games, even some of the spring training. I do not expect a ring. This should be for the football players only.
I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it!

This is a money-maker for Balfour and Balfour only, but they wouldn't be doing it if AISD wasn't permitting it. Per the article, last year only 75 students purchased these rings. I wish AISD wasn't allowing it.

Team and coaches only. It means something to them and they earned the rings. To everyone else, no matter how proud they might be of the team, the rings are only trinkets.

I could see being upset if identical rings were being offered to the general public, but the rings are much smaller than the players will be getting. I doubt anyone is going to purchase a commemorative ring and try to pass it off as if they were part of the team, although I find it hard to understand who might want one in the first place.

I believe the cheerleaders and drill team members received state championship medals along with the football players. Isn't that equally odd?

I can understand the players wanting a ring exclusive to them, and it is. Their ring will be much larger than the commemorative ring offered for sale. Maybe the flyer should have been different.

However, it is not unusual for replica or commemorative rings to be sold when a popular sports team wins a championship. If you search the internet, you can easily find numerous sites selling knock-off championship rings for almost every professional sport. Now I’m not comparing the Allen Eagles to any professional team, I’m just pointing out the example of fans wanting to celebrate the victory of their favorite team.

Why should the loyal fans of the three-time state football champion Allen Eagles be any different?

If you don’t think the commemorative ring should be sold, then what about that “state champion” t-shirt for sale at many local stores? When you purchase an article of clothing, are you not doing it in support of the team and/or because you’re trying to be identified with that organization in some way? The ring is just another way to show your support to the organization.

I say let the students (and in my opinion, the public) have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative ring.

If Balfour could get any more entrenched at AHS, they would get their own Tax rate for the district.

The access and opportunity to sell to our students is ridiculous.

If anyone wears a "commemorative" ring they are as weak as someone buying Elvis plates from the Franklin mint so they could sing like elvis.

its just a ring people!! Who really cares? It's no different than a class ring, once they get out of high school and go to college, they will never wear it again anyways, unless they wear it until they die then they will look and sound like the unlce from Nopolean Dynamite, which is what nobody wants to hear about,,lol...

Don't forget about the athletic training students who get there before the athletes and stay long after the athletes are gone in order to prepare and keep the athletes hydrated and healthy. Coaches, ATCs and students, and players should be the only ones receiving rings
