What happened to being an 'independent' school district? You can't advertise 'Coke' but you can advertise "Diet-Coke". Brilliant.

Aren't public schools by definition, government schools? I think the initiative is good. Product advertising pervades the schools. Coke is not a nutritious drink (aside - I do like Coke) and Diet Coke is only a little better. Drawing a line is a means of compromise and in this case, a line between diet and regular Coke was one that government and corporate interests could agree on. Successful compromise is often brilliant when it moves a good initiative forward.

My experience with the government is when you 'let them in the door' they break it down. There is no compromise with the Federal government.
I'm not okay with the Federal Government in my school. We are Allen Independent School District and I prefer local government control.
This is a left vs. right issue. I'm glad I live in a 'right leaning' community.
The Federal Government wants to tell me it's okay to advertise Diet-Coke but not Coke...funny in my opinion.

Even the scoreboards in high school gyms will have to advertise only healthy foods under new rules announced Tuesday by the Obama administration.
Promotion of sugary drinks and junk foods around campuses during the school day will be phased out under the rules, intended to ensure that such marketing is brought in line with health standards that already apply to school foods.

Yeah, how horrible is it that healthier snacks and drinks are promoted in schools? Oh how awful.
By the way, Diet Coke has zero calories. Coca Cola on the other hand is loaded with calories, fat, and sugar.

How awful that the local government can't regulate themselves. How awful that someone in the district or at the Board level didn't come up with this idea first? It swings both ways...who do you blame? Shame on us for not doing a better job, right? Isn't that your better argument?
I'm not going to debate with you if Diet Coke is healthy or not. There is enough published research to debunk any health claims you want to make regarding diet soda.
Government schools? Despise it but we can play by the rules.
