I am one of the voters in last week's election, and I voted against the only Board member who was there when this decision was made. To me, it was an example of a bad decision that did not have the taxpayers interest at heart for the best and highest use of that money, among other things.

Apparently, not too many voters in the election agreed with your point. I am one of those that did not vote on a single issue, but rather what I believe is really best for Allen ISD.

  • StacyLynn624 Said:

Of course, I voted against that particular bond, because I wanted the Board to go back to the drawing board and come up with something more reasonable. I knew of the need for a stadium, but I was smart enough to realize that if it was voted down, there would be another opportunity for a new stadium. The voters didn't understand that. They thought they would be stuck with the Old Eagle Stadium forever and ever.

Once again, most of the voters did not agree with your position. That does not make the voters less "smart" than you, it simply makes them have a different view of the entire bond election. By voting against a single item, you also voted against the other projects in the bond election. Again, I voted for what I believed was best for Allen ISD, not on a single issue.

If UIL ever makes Monday morning quarterbacking an official team sport, a bunch of you guys are bound to bring home the hardware.

Sheesh.

I'm hoping they can turn out a competent engineer or two that can properly design a stadium that won't fall apart in 18 months.

It's not about that. It's about using history in order to not make the same mistakes in the future. Should we not be teaching history anymore? What good is history if you aren't going to use it to make better choices in the future?

Why do you assume that was the only reason I voted? It was not. It was a large reason.

So do you agree with Pork Spending in Federal Bills too?

My point is, many people think that we shouldn't go back and look at past decisions made by elected officials in order to decide if they are worthy of our vote again, and that's wrong! That's the whole point! If they make bad decisions, they shouldn't be there, no matter how much they love children and puppies.

I think some of that money could have been used to build a performing arts center or a bus barn, and brought the whole bond amount down. But that's just me.

Let's look at the positives:

1) less traffic on a Exchange in the fall.
2) those who don't like the median art along Exchange, at least no visitors will see it this year (I actually like it, but many complained).
3) Plenty of extra parking for, hmm, whatever.
4) Local gas station will feel a stimulus from locals filling up for long hauls to home games.
5) Friday nights won't be quite as loud in my living room (two miles northwest and I can follow along with the PA. I don't mind, it's kind of cool).
6) No jockeying with enemy fans for position on the waiting list at local restaurants pre-game.
7) All the free used concrete you can carry here in a few months.
8) We can now claim "Allen TX, home of the worlds most expensive, unusable, rapidly depreciating high school asset", it has a ring to it.

I apologize for the assumption. It was the only reason you gave, so I drew a logical conclusion.

I like pork. And bacon too...

My point is that EVERYONE makes bad decisions (just like my decision to post!). You hold people responsible for ALL of their decisions, good and bad. To blame for bad an not give credit for the good is remarkably unfair.

Lets see how the board does with resolving the problem with the stadium and all of the other issues that they must deal with to keep AISD well regarded.

I honestly think there is no chance we will see us play at the stadium in the 2015 season, not being negative just being realistic based on what I have seen this week. Dr Hindt surmised it would take 6-8 months to fix the problem, may be optimistic but we will go with it, but I can see it taking longer than that to beat out the solution and who pays for what. If it were just the fault of one of the involved parties it would be easy but since the blame is spread around you will see litigation to spread the fault and thus the cost to repair.
And to the future of insurance paying for it, this may be what we will end up seeing unfortunately.
