What can I do? I adopted a Maltese/Mini Schnauzer mix 2 years ago. He is a sweetie, fits w/my family, and I'm not allergic to him. However, I just can't deal with his nipping. Typical schnauzer behavior (jealousy, fear, protection of his family) is just too much and he needs to be trained. He's about 4 y.o. now. We've tried PetSmart training w/no luck. I don't want him to be put down for this. What can we do? Resources?

It's been years since I've posted on here, and I am desperate. I want to keep our family, but his nips and bites are unacceptable and I can't allow it. I need a trainer or a way to work with him. ASAP. Or Animal Control will be at my door and taking him...and our hearts...away. :( Please help!

I should add, since it was misconstrued, that *I* won't be putting him down. EVER. I meant that if Animal Control comes out...I just can't imagine the pain the family will be in. I remember there used to be a few dog walkers and dog people in here that could suggest a trainer/whisperer for helping us with him.

Robin
We have a Yorkie who was labeled by a famous dog trainer as being "the most stubborn dog he has ever met."
I have worked with 2 trainers-both were very good but most of the problem was that my husband and I weren't very consistent with the training.
Both will come to your home. I am giving you one name because she is more reasonably priced and was as good as the more expensive trainer.

Thank you, Debbie! I will check into that resource. Between FB referrals and your referral, I'm hoping I can get my dog to stop nipping and not worry about his future. :)

Call Aaron Stewart @ The Educated Dog. He deals with behavior issues not clicker training like PetsMart.

If you call him he will talk your ear off. He helped me twice to learn how to control my both my dogs behavior.

www.theeducateddog.com.

He will come to your house.
