I have been trying to get the owner/developer to clean up the vacant lot on the corner of McDermott & Cedar, right across the street from the First Baptist church. I spoke with the police & there is no law on the books that the owner has to keep the property edged, only the grass has to be under 6" tall. They can only make him cut it, nothing else.

They suggested I call the owner listed on the sign & speak with him. So I called & left both him & Donna Tidwell a message to please call me. Donna called & had us all three on a conference call. I started telling Don Blackwood (214)215-1333 the condition of the property & how it was not being very well taken care of. Before I could even say anymore, he started screaming at me, seriously. People in my office could hear him 10 feet away from my desk. I only wanted to tell him that whatever mowing service he has doing his property are not doing a very good job for him.

He started telling me he kept all his properties nice. He accused me of calling him a bad person when I had only gotten out a few sentences when he erupted like a volcano. I was totally shocked by his anger, attitude, & his totally lack of professionalism. He went on to say, "I have not sold that property to a lot of people that wanted it because I am trying to find the perfect fit for your neighborhood". I've heard this before when they developed the property across the street from my house in Fairview. I left Fairview almost 15 yrs ago to move to Allen. If he thought I was that stupid to believe that nonsense, he is totally misguided.

He is trying to sell a property that happens to be across from a church & in front of a 30+ year old neighborhood. Not sure exactly happened to the really cute little shopping center they sent us all a picture of in the mail that was planned & accepted years ago. Maybe the economy biting the dust had something to do with it. However, this is not my fault & I do not appreciate trying to help someone & be yelled at. He is a very rude and hostile man. The realtor, Donna Tidwell (318-272-0361), interrupted his tirade to tell me she would check it out & get back to me. I told her thank you that was all I wanted. She can verify everything I have said here. He accused me of demeaning him in some way. I have yet to figure out what he was talking about. I told him "I do not even know you sir, so how can I say what kind of a person you are. All I am trying to do is let you know that whoever you are paying to take care of that particular property is not doing a very good job for you". I have never heard back & it is worse than ever now. The dead grass from last year is still hanging all over the curb & spring is here. A huge tractor with a 6' across grass mower thing on the back hits or misses cutting the grass as he hauls butt across that property. Usually the grass is just smashed down on the ground until it grows over the curb and out into the street. You can't tell most of the time where the property ends & the street begins. They never blow the grass off the street that he does manage to hit with the mower blades. If it is raining or damp, the grass blows all over my car as I go that way to work every day & back. It is an eyesore and not very neighborly at all, in my opinion. I have also been over run with Roof Rats for the last 3 years. I'm sure that ill kept lot has something to do with it.

I would appreciate some support from our community to get this cleaned up & have continued maintenance performed. I can't do this alone. If everyone would call Don or Donna to let them know this is not acceptable yard maintenance in our community. I don't know about you but I work very hard & spend a lot of money to maintain my yard. I know the couple on the corner lot directly behind this property keeps their yard absolutely beautiful, year round. The least this man can do is edge the Cedar side of the property.

Thank you all for listening to my tirade. LOL! I am frustrated & tired of people being so nasty when someone is only trying to help them out. I don't usually say anything & just go about my own business but his behavior was very inappropriate and the fact remains that the property is a disgrace. I also did not deserve to be treated so unkindly by someone that did not even know me. I save that for my friends, they know me. Yes, I do have a sense of humor.

I hope each & every one of you that read this call both Don & Donna to ask them to clean up Don's property so our neighborhood looks neat & clean again.

They city needs to help enforce rules and keep downtown clean. They'll complain about minor issues with my Main St. property but won't do anything with the 80+ year old that lives behind my property and has a minimum of 5 junks cars with grass, weeds, and shrubs covering them up. Rats are infesting the area and the city doesn't care. In fact I think later this week I'll get a ladder and take some pictures over the fence. What they're allowing is a joke.

Open forum at a city council meeting is a good way to bring attention to a bigger problem. The council can't respond during the meeting unless it is on the agenda, but I have seen them follow up when made aware of an issue.

Not trying to excuse the attitude of the property owner but I went and looked at the property. It looks better than most undeveloped parcels around town.

This would be very easy for him to do & make all the neighbors happy.

Thank you for the suggestion. I really appreciate it. I will do just that. If I was able I'd go down there & edge it myself. On the other hand, he was so rude to me I'd rather he go do it himself & I'd be there to watch. I've dealt with developers before when I lived in Fairview over 15 yrs ago. However, unlike this rude man, he was very nice & helpful in answering all our questions about his project. The development was built & he did what he said he would do. It is a very nice little neighborhood with $$$$$ houses.
