Wow. I normally defend the APD. They've been good to us over the years and I've never had an issue with them.

Tonight my son was walking home down Cross Plains, one block from the house. An Hispanic officer, as described by my son, pulled along side my son and said, "what are you doing?"

My son responded, "I'm walking home." The officer said, "Where do you live?" and my son responded, "the next block."

The officer then said, "do you do drugs?" and my son responded, "No." "When's the last time you did marijuana?", he asked (that's a drug, right? Why the poking??) My son responded, "I've never smoked before."

What kind of officer does this? A 6'2 sophomore High School kid, pants pulled up, tucked in shirt, minding his own business coming home walking down the sidewalk.

My son then asked(as he was taught before), "Officer, am I being detained?" and the officer, while on the radio, responds, "yes."

My son pulls out his phone and the officer said, "who are you calling?" and my son says, "I want you to talk to my dad." The officer says, "I don't need to talk to your dad...your free to go."

Are you kidding me? Maybe something happened in the neighborhood but you don't have to act like a jackass to a kid and make such a bad impression (as an officer).

I'm calling the Police Department tomorrow. I hope this was all recorded because I want answers. Probable cause? Answering "yes" to being detained.

Which direction is this Police Department heading?

If anyone has experience with this please let me know. Overreacting? Perfectly fine with the actions or not?

My kid finds it strange behavior and I'm not going to give him my overall opinion until I get facts and information. FYI, he's a great kid, on the football team, great discipline, respectful, and doesn't dress anything that would fit a hoodlum profile.

I have friends up there. I know they can turn on and off the microphone. I hope this guy had his on. I just want answers. My kid was surprised. I told him, "maybe some kid did something in the neighborhood" and my son said, "this officer was asking if I do drugs and acted strange towards me."

Phishing for entrapment.

If he didn't have his phone on him, you'd be getting a call right about now from downtown on some trumped up drug charge.

I agree, Wirstrom and Smith (APD) were good at that. Smith was also good at child abuse.

I've mentioned this on here before.

Years ago we were woke at about 8am on a Sat morning and two police officers asked to speak with my 12 y/o son. I will make it short without skipping ANY pertinent details. They told us that someone fitting his description was involved in some auto vandalism and that the accuser pointed out our house. In front of me they insisted that he was involved... repeating in different ways that they knew they had the right kid - not a little like but exactly like they do accused murder suspects, they kept attempting to pressure him to admit it - even after he insisted that he had no idea what they were talking about and after me assuring them that I knew with absolute certainty his whereabouts during the time that the vandalism was to have occurred. After proving the timeline beyond the shadow of any doubt whatsoever - they left with not so much as an apology, "sorry for the confusion", or anything. They just drove off. I was pissed. This happened exactly as I've described it.

I surely wish I could claim that I didn't believe a word you guys have said about the APD but I have had too many experiences with them myself to know that they are just as described.

James,

As much as I hate hearing these stories, it is reaffirming hearing it from you the usual APD defender. What these thugs do best is create criminals as opposed to actually capturing them. There are apps designed to record such encounters, your kids should have them installed on their phones. Things are getting out of control.

While we all support LEO's, it is true and unfortunate that some will do this. I've been hassled as well as family members before and I'm in the same Public Safety realm as they are. I have other family elsewhere going through worse right now because of LEO's in their town.

With the stress in society we may see a rise in this, but there are some personnel that have always had an attitude towards citizens. Good luck.
