We are looking to relocate to Allen this summer to be closer to husband's work. We are currently looking for properties in both the Curtis and Ereckson boundaries. Are there any major differences in these two schools? Does one have a stronger music program? Also, do they both have an orientation for new 7th graders coming into the school for the students (particularly those new to district) to get acquainted with the building and meet new kids?
We are also looking at private school options in the area and have been impressed with McKinney Christian. Any feedback regarding MCA?

I had good experiences at both schools, but I think it might be helpful to talk to the counselors at the schools to get your own impressions.

We have had three kids at Curtis so far and have had good experiences with all. They do have an orientation about a week or two before school starts for incoming 7th graders. I would guess that all three middle schools do something similar.

Private school would be the best choice, to much drugs and fights at AISD.

In private schools the drugs are better and the fights involve cyberbullying.

My oldest goes to Curtis. Not once has my child mentioned any drug issues or fights happening.

Like you, I have two at Curtis and one at the high school and I have only once heard about any fighting. After picking up my oldest we talk and he likes to share what is going on at school with me.
As for drugs, I think a lot has to do with whom your children are hanging out. A kids who is interested in drugs will find drugs.
We try to be proactive parents and talk with our kids about what they might see or hear while in school.

Thanks for all the feedback. I believe that there are pros and cons to each & every public AND private schools. It is not a matter of finding the perfect school (as this does not exist), but rather the best fit. I am a little apprehensive about the size of the schools (especially middle and high school). Our current middle school for 6-8 is less than 900. Our high school is under 2500 kids. I guess we will see how things play out for the fall.
